Jennifer Finch, L7 Bassist, Dies at 59 Following Battle With Aggressive Brain Cancer.
The rock community is grieving a huge loss. Jennifer Finch, the bassist for rock group L7, passed away on July 18, according to her bandmates, just days after the band revealed that Finch was suffering from "an aggressive form of brain cancer." She was fifty-nine.
“With a very heavy heart we announce that our beloved bandmate, friend, and fellow troublemaker Jennifer Finch has passed away today,” on July 18, the alt-rock group posted on Instagram. "She had a long, courageous fight with brain cancer and was loved by many wonderful friends, musical peers and fans worldwide.”
They went on, “We love you Jennifer."

Finch's loved ones also discussed her lasting impact in the wake of the devastating news.
"We are devastated to announce the death of our partner, sister, daughter, and friend Jennifer Precious Finch," reads a statement posted on Finch's Instagram on July 18. "Jennifer’s impact on the world of music was seismic; her impact on our lives, even moreso.”
“We appreciate everyone’s interest and concern, thank you for all the kind messages,” the statement says. “We appreciate some space to heal privately during this difficult time.”
Finch's loved ones revealed that she was fighting "an aggressive form of brain cancer" less than a week before she passed away. They posted the information on her Instagram profile and started a GoFundMe page to assist pay for her medical expenses.
"After her diagnosis, there was hope that treatment would give her a path back to some version of normal life," read the Instagram picture from July 13 that showed Finch in a hospital bed. "Instead, complications brought multiple surgeries and a relentless series of setbacks."
They explained, "Jennifer is now living with significant physical limitations and requires a level of care that love, friendship, and sheer determination cannot safely provide around the clock."
As reported by Rolling Stone, Finch, who joined L7 in 1986, had a thyroid cancer diagnosis in 2011.
The most recent lineup of L7, which was active from 1985 to 2001 until reforming in 2014, was made up of its founders prior to Finch's passing. Dee Plakas, Finch, Donita Sparks, and Suzi Gardner.
The grunge band announced that Finch would not be joining them for the U.S. leg of their Last Hurrah Tour this fall after receiving her prognosis, while their bandmate urged them to go on.
"Although she will not be able to join us for the upcoming U.S. dates, Jennifer has asked us to continue with the tour as planned," L7 narrated in a statement that has since been removed. "We will honor her request while making her care and well-being our immediate priority.”
The band will always have a special place in their hearts for their cherished bassist.
"Jennifer was a true original who lived entirely on her own terms, and the impact she made on music, art and everyone lucky enough to know her cannot be measured," L7 told Rolling Stone in a brief statement. "We love her beyond words and will carry her with us always. Rest in power our dear friend.”
