JoJo Siwa, Miley Cyrus, and numerous other celebrities have openly shared their personal experiences of coming out

That’s a beautiful way to kick off Pride Month! Many celebrities have shared their coming out stories, offering inspiration and visibility to the LGBTQ+ community.

The Louisiana native enjoyed her journey with singer Hayley Kiyoko in private for years before revealing their happiness in public. She courted both Chris Soules and Ben Higgins on the ABC love hunt before falling in love with fellow franchise alumnus Robert Graham.

And the pair, who began dating in 2018, set out on their voyage together.

"Most of my followers are conservative,” The 36-year-old admitted to feeling anxious before exposing their relationship in Hayley's 2022 music video on the Made It Out podcast in 2024. “And it's going to be shocking to them that this person that they viewed as a 'role model' is now dating a woman. Like, it's gonna be a weird backlash."

However, after the world learned, Becca came to understand the effects of being openly true to herself, especially for LGBTQ+ people.

"I realized this is so much bigger than me and my relationship and my personal experience because if it helped anyone feel comfortable or brave to be comfortable with who they fall in love with, then that's way bigger than me and my fears and what I was scared of," she shared in June 2022. "It's very humbling to read comments like that and realize the significance of something as simple as falling in love and sharing that."

JoJo Siwa, for example, came out in a 2021 Instagram story when she was 17. She later reflected that she didn’t initially realize how significant that moment was but embraced her truth despite losing some fans. Miley Cyrus, on the other hand, came out as pansexual in 2016, expressing that she never liked labels and didn’t view gender as a defining factor in attraction.

"My whole life, I didn't understand my own gender and my own sexuality," In October 2016, she told Variety. "I always hated the word 'bisexual,' because that's even putting me in a box. I don't ever think about someone being a boy or someone being a girl."

Other stars like Chappell Roan have spoken about the challenges of unlearning societal biases and embracing their identity. Their stories highlight the courage it takes to live authentically and the importance of representation.

"Also, my nipple pasties and s--t never felt sexualized to me,” she went on. "My eyes started opening in the fifth or sixth grade. My first relationship in my life was with a chick."

How should one approach a conversation about coming out? Andy Cohen, who came out in college, advised beginning modestly.

"My advice would be, find one friend that you can tell," he previously shared. "All it takes is one friend that you know will be supportive. And that friend can be your island and just kind of branch out from there. It's always worse in your head than it's going to be."
