What does a name mean? Well, it is victory for Machine Gun Kelly. According to the 35-year-old rapper, his proposal for his and Megan Fox's 4-month-old daughter Saga Blade was successful; he did not receive the same victory with his and ex-Emma Cannon's 15-year-old daughter Casie.
"Well, I won the second one and lost the first one," MGK said in Today's 8 Before 8 video series on July 24. “When you are 18 years old and you go to her mother and you go, ‘What if we named our kid “Kid?”’ I get why she’s like, ‘Hey man, shut up.’”
"That was one of the names," the rapper, whose real name is Colson Baker, acknowledged. "That would be sick if her name was Kid," I thought.
MGK has been open about why he chose the name Saga, despite the fact that he was unsuccessful in naming his first child. When he appeared on the morning show on June 20, he declared, “She is an epic story,” “That's what saga means.”
The singer of "My Ex's Best Friend" also revealed that he thought about "her journey, the five years of her culmination of coming, disappearing, coming back again, disappearing, coming back again" while he pondered her name.
Megan has been candid about having a miscarriage prior to becoming pregnant with Saga. Megan is also the mother of Noah, 12, Bodhi, 11, and Journey, 8. She is married to her ex-husband Brian Austin Green.
Additionally, MGK mentioned that his daughter's name relates to his Norwegian heritage, saying, “That's the Nordic goddess of storytelling. So, she has a storytelling future ahead of her.”
However, the rapper has considered other names besides Saga. Indeed, Machine Gun Kelly gave an explanation for his recent decision to change his stage name to just mgk.
“Machine Gun Kelly, I was bestowed that name,” he added in his Today interview from July 24. “It was derived from a mobster. So, it wasn’t technically my name.”
He went on, “I think ultimately it was a character and now I’ve infused the artist with the human. So, I am MGK. And mgk—all lowercase—just very much more matches who I am now.”
