Madelyn Cline would rather not be referred to as "madam." The Outer Banks actress disclosed that she had to deal with a difficult scenario when filming Day Drinker in Madrid with Penélope Cruz and Johnny Depp. Police were frequently stopping by her flat because they believed she was operating a "sex ring."

“Did I tell you the story about how when I was in Spain,” Cline inquired about host Jake Shane's Therapuss podcast episode on August 12. “I was working, and the police kept showing up to my apartment door?”
The 28-year-old responded to Shane's joking that they believed she was a prostitute by saying, “They thought I was the leader.”
The statement startled Shane, who joked, “They thought you were a madam? How many girls were staying in your apartment?”
Cline clarified that she was the only one residing in the apartment at the time and said that talking to her co-star Cruz helped clarify the circumstances.
“She was asking me how I liked living in Madrid,” Cline remembered. “I was telling her, ‘I love it so much, but I have to move out of my apartment because the police keep showing up and I’m really scared. They keep talking to me in Spanish, and I’m trying to translate, but I don’t know how. They keep taking my passport and my information and I’m scared.’”
Cruz soon deduced that Cline was actually sleeping at an apartment she had lived in years prior after the Glass Onion actress informed him, she lived in Madrid's Salamanca neighborhood. The Oscar winner informed Cline that an old neighbor had earlier called to inform her that "they had tracked some local crime ring in Salamanca."
“They had tracked it back to the building,” Cline clarified. “They were coming to my apartment directly and I found out later that it was like some sex ring.”
“They thought it was me leading it,” she cried out. “They thought I was the madam of it.”
Naturally, there was "no hate at all" toward real sex workers, the Boy Erased star explained, joking, “They thought that I was their fearless leader. I was their fearful leader.”
Shane and she made jokes about how she had been “accidentally elected,” Cline continued, “I wish they would have let me know because I would have been a lot braver about it.”
