Manuel Masalva is conscious and recovering. The Narcos: Mexico star made his first public statement three months after a severe bacterial infection put him in a medically induced coma.
He posted a Spanish-translated message on Instagram on July 7 that read, "I am healing." "I want to profoundly thank you all for the support you have given me and continue to give me, in every sense, every one of you."
While Masalva acknowledged that his recuperation "has barely begun," As he embarks on his second chapter, the 43-year-old feels "fortunate, strong, reborn and well-accompanied." "God has given me a new life," he concluded.
According to what his manager Jaime Jaramillo Espinosa previously told the Los Angeles Times, Masalva's medical experience began on March 18, when he "began to feel internal discomfort and pain" upon his arrival in Dubai from the Philippines.
According to Jaramillo Espinosa, Masalva had emergency surgery on March 26 after doctors determined that he had a bacterial infection. The management stated that he was placed in a medically induced coma after the infection spread to his lungs a day later.
As per to what his friend Mario Morán posted on GoFundMe at the time, Masalva remained in severe condition throughout April.
"The bacteria has already been detected," actor Morán stated in an update on April 3. "He's on antibiotics, and we're waiting for him to begin to improve."
"I do not know if I really understand all of what’s going on or just a part of it, it has been an eternity and there are still certain parts missing," Masalva wrote in his first social media post since his sickness.
"I just want to give the strongest thanks that I can give to God, my family, my doctors and all those people that have supported me since the start of this process," he went on. "I owe you all my life."
