Nicolas Cage Opens Up About Being “Homeless” After Sinkhole Damages His Malibu Mansion.

For the time being, Nicolas Cage is departing Malibu. The Leaving Las Vegas star provided an update on his present living circumstances almost two months after a huge sinkhole seriously damaged his $10.5 million California property.

“I’m currently a little bit homeless,” on October 31, Cage stated during a panel at the Los Angeles Comic Con. “Something happened to my house in Malibu, so I’m just sort of living in hotels.

He and his wife, Riko Shibata, have a 4-year-old daughter named August, so this year's Halloween plans were a little different.

"I don’t have normal trick-or-treaters that I would like to enjoy tonight," Cage, who is also the father of boys Kal-El, 21, and Weston, 35, described his previous relationships. "I'll take my daughter out trick-or-treating somewhere in Santa Monica, but I am going to watch a movie where the director was actually nominated for Worst Director at the Razzies—called The Shining."

The Stanley Kubrick classic's Oscar winner went on, "He directed the hell out of that movie. I'm going to watch that tonight. After I put my daughter to bed, I'm going to put on The Shining."

A sinkhole that opened up in September harmed many residences, including Cage's oceanfront property. As a result, local authorities declared an emergency and ordered the evacuation of more than thirty dwellings in the Malibu area.

The sinkhole, which was around 60 feet wide and 25 feet deep, wrecked Cage's driveway and collapsed his deck. It also temporarily caused a gas leak in the surrounding area.

The National Treasure star bought the 4,000-square-foot house in 2024, fifteen years after he had to sell five of his residences, including a 28-room castle in Germany, due to a government-imposed tax lien on his real estate assets.

"Due to the difficult economic situation, unfortunately, I was no longer able to keep it," in a 2009 interview with the German magazine Bunte, Cage discussed his Bavarian stronghold. "Even if Neidstein Castle is no longer in my possession, it will always have a firm place in my memory."
