Quinta Brunson is gearing up to take on the role of Betty Boop in forthcoming movie.

Quinta Brunson is wearing a highly recognizable red outfit. The creator of Abbott Elementary announced that she will write and appear in a future movie based on the well-known animated character Betty Boop.

On May 20, Quinta shared Variety's article on the project on her Instagram, captioning it with the words "excited to bring this story to life."

Variety revealed that the 36-year-old's company, Fifth Chance Productions, collaborated with the family's Fleischer Studios and Betty Boop founder Max Fleischer's grandson, Mark Fleischer, for the film, which is presently in progress.

What is the subject matter of the movie? It will trace Betty Boop's development from Max's point of view, describing his relationship with the Jazz Age caricature, which he first appeared in in 1930, and his handling of the increasing demands of producing a popular animated figure.

"Betty Boop is one of our nation's most beloved cartoon characters, yet somehow still remains pleasantly niche," Quinta, who collaborates with Erin Wehrenberg, chief of creative affairs at Fifth Chance, informed Variety in a statement. "She has had a quiet but undeniable impact on culture for nearly a century."

"After Erin and I met with Mark and learned more about his grandfather's creation of Betty, I realized there was a much deeper story to tell," she added. "One that could be explored in a way that feels refreshing, subversive, and timeless, much like Betty herself."

The Emmy winner's "unique concept" for the movie piqued Mark's interest.

"I was breathtaken," he released a statement to the media. "Quinta so embodies Betty's love of life, intelligence, humor, sassiness and compassion that the relationship between her as Betty and Max burst into life at its mere mention."

Quinta plays Janine Teagues in Abbott Elementary, which was renewed for a sixth season more than two months ago. The actress is appreciative of the success of her award-winning series, but she also wants to pursue other endeavors.

"Right now, I'm receiving scripts and waiting for that moment that feels like, 'Oh man, this is exactly what I've been looking for,'" the Emmy winner informed Bustle in June 2025. "Abbott has been so successful, and I want to use that success to get other people's projects off the ground."

"I'm always interested in playing against type," Quinta went on to say. "I think that's any actor's dream."
