Rita Ora shares Beyoncé's response to rumors that she was "Becky with the Good Hair," following speculation about an alleged affair with Jay-Z.

Rita Ora recently opened up about how Beyoncé supported her during the whirlwind of rumors that she was “Becky with the good hair,” the mysterious figure referenced in Beyoncé’s 2016 Lemonade track “Sorry.” At the time, speculation swirled that the lyric hinted at Jay-Z’s alleged infidelity, and Rita—then signed to Jay-Z’s Roc Nation—found herself caught in the crossfire.

In a candid conversation on the Begin Again podcast, Rita said the rumors were completely unfounded: “It wasn’t real, of course not, absolutely not… I wish I had good hair.” She described the experience as her first taste of being in a “messy situation” and recalled feeling confused and hurt.

Even though Rita, Rachel Roy, and even Gwyneth Paltrow was rumored to be the other woman, they all denied it at the time, and Beyoncé herself never disclosed the woman's identity. After all, there was a lot of conjecture about who the other woman was when she released her historic album Lemonade, which may be seen as about her healing process after discovering Jay-Z's alleged affairs.

What stood out most was Beyoncé’s quiet but powerful support. Rita called her a “fairy godmother” and “protector,” saying there was “nothing but love” between them. Beyoncé even attended Rita’s first New York show and continued to check in on her and her family over the years.

"She was my protector. That's what's insane because there was nothing but love,” the judge of Masked Singer, who is now happily married to Taika Waititi, added. “And, you know, again, being signed to Jay-Z, her husband, she being my biggest inspiration. She came to my first show in New York at The Box and I sang ‘Say My Name’ in front of Beyoncé.”

“I was actually genuinely upset, because that’s my big sister,” she added, “protector and she took it upon herself to look after me.”

To put the rumors to rest, the two took a selfie together at the 2016 Met Gala a symbolic moment that Rita said made the gossip “gone,” because “there was never anything there in the first place”.

“When we saw each other at the Met Gala we took a selfie and it was gone,” the actress from 50 Shades of Grey said. "Because there was never anything there in the first place.”

Years later, Rita said that she and the singer of "16 Carriages" were still in love.

She said, "And I still see her 'til this day." “And she’s always been so nice, and proud, and checking up on my family and friends that I’ve had since childhood, remembering their names. I mean it’s crazy.”

It’s a rare glimpse into how celebrities navigate public scrutiny—and how sisterhood can shine through the noise.
