Rudy Guiliani is in the process of recuperating from a horrific vehicle accident. On the evening of August 20 in New Hampshire, the former mayor of New York City was hospitalized following a car accident in which he was apparently struck from behind on the highway after pulling over to assist a victim of domestic abuse.
“Prior to the incident, he was flagged down by a woman who was the victim of a domestic violence incident,” Michael Ragusa, Giuliani's head of security, wrote in a statement posted on Instagram on August 31. “Mayor Giuliani immediately rendered assistance and contacted 911.”
“He remained on scene until responding officers arrived to ensure her safety,” the statement went on. “Following this, while traveling on the highway, Mayor Giuliani’s vehicle was struck from behind at a high speed.”
As to the statement, the 81-year-old was subsequently taken to a local trauma facility where he was diagnosed with various lacerations and contusions, a fractured thoracic vertebrae and injuries to his lower leg and left arm.
“His business partner and medical provider were promptly contacted and arrived at the hospital to oversee his care,” the declaration came to an end. “At this time, no further updates are available.”
Ragusa also provided an update on Giuliani's health following the event in the post's description. Giuliani is the father of two children, Andrew Giuliani, 38, and Caroline Giuliani, 35, with his ex-wife Donna Hanover.
“He sustained multiple injuries but is in good spirits and recovering tremendously,” he wrote. “We thank everyone for their continued prayers and support.”
Ragusa claimed that the incident "was not a targeted attack" in a different post that was shared with X, urging internet users to “refrain from spreading unfounded conspiracy theories.”
Ragusa went on to tell The New York Post that Giuliani, who earned the moniker "America's mayor" for his leadership in New York following the September 11 attacks in 2001, is anticipated to stay in the hospital for two or three more days before being released and having to wear a brace to protect his fractured vertebrae.
“The mayor is in great spirits,” Ragusa informed the publication. “He’s a beast. He survived 9/11.”
In the meantime, Giuliani's son Andrew thanked everyone for their family's well wishes since the accident.
“Thank you to all the people that have reached out since learning the news about my father,” on X, he stated. “Your prayers mean the world. As a son, I can tell you I’m honored to have a Dad that I can call the toughest SOB I’ve ever seen!”
