Shawn Johnson East Reveals How Son Bear Is Recovering.

Shawn Johnson East shares update on youngest child after surgery. Following a "definitely needed" visit to an ear, nose, and throat surgeon, Shawn gave followers an update on her 2-year-old son, Barrett "Bear" East, who she shares with husband Andrew East.

"Updates because it’s been a while and I’ve left you all hanging," as reported by People July 31, Shawn wrote a caption for a video that was uploaded on Instagram Stories on July 30. "First UPDATE Bear had his second set of tubes put in today and his adenoids removed. Surgery went great."

According to the Cleveland Clinic, he had an adenoidectomy, a treatment in which a child's adenoid glands (found in the upper nose) are removed to clear the airway following significant swelling from infection. Usually, the procedure is brief and starts with the administration of anesthetic.

The 34-year-old did point out that her toddler's response to the anesthesia was difficult.

"It was a rough wake up from anesthesia, but we are back home," in the video, Shawn clarified, "When kids come in out of anesthesia, it’s pretty rough. This was by far the roughest."

Shawn and Andrew, who are also parents to Drew Hazel East, 6, and Jett James East, 4, are still inspired by the child's resilience in the face of medical pressure despite the difficult post-op adjustment.

"He’s just kind of our fighter, and always has been," she acknowledged it. "And he really fought that anesthesia."

Additionally, the parents, who have been married since 2016, are feeling more hopeful about Bear's ongoing recuperation, particularly because their third child made progress in the hours following his comeback home.

"We’ve been home for probably five hours, and all of a sudden it’s like there’s been a switch flipped," Shawn gave specifics. "They were kind of worried at the outpatient because he was refusing water, juice, popsicles, everything. They’re like 'Make sure you call us if that continues.'"

However, though, Shawn was able to include yogurt, pizza, popsicles, cherries, melon, and avocado in the grocery haul that Bear was humorously "demanding" by the time she was writing her post.

In her words, "He’s a bottomless pit right now."
