The Case Against Apple, OpenAI by x, xAI
“In a desperate bid to protect its smartphone monopoly, Apple has joined forces with the company that most benefits from inhibiting competition and innovation in AI: OpenAI, a monopolist in the market for generative AI chatbots,” part of filing, by Elon Musk’s companies X and xAI, against Apple and OpenAI, accusing the duo of colluding to maintain dominance in the smartphone and generative AI markets.
This looks like the case against Google for paying Apple to make Google search the default search engine in Apple products. I am not sure the merit of this suit, but one thing I know is that ChatGPT is amazing. Gemini from Google is another nice one. Others are largely voting presence!
Yet, for fairness, App stores should be democratic which means the ranking should be based on popularity and not any other fudge factor. Unfortunately, that has not been the case! If this case could help fix that anomaly, that may be a big win.
