The Challenge before Governor Ambode
In coming hours, we would read about the political future of Lagos State Governor Akinwunmi Ambode. He will possibly step down for Mr Sanwo-Olu who is now widely expected to clinch the APC ticket in Lagos state. If he stays in the primary, he will simply humiliate himself as he will lose.
Yes, the train had moved: all the state’s 57 local government chairmen had endorsed his opponent. Also, the state house members have moved against him. He is largely a political general without a voting troop, at the primaries.
Another option is to decamp to another party. But that will be hard because PDP is locked up. And trying it will ensure he is removed through impeachment within days since APC controls Lagos state house.

Yet, he has to make a decision: stay and become irrelevant or take your message to the Lagos public. It is possible the public will have sympathy via another party at the general election. It happened in the time of Michael Otedola when the big boys fought and the man sneaked in as Lagos state governor.
The problem for Mr. Ambode is that another party will cause massive political dislocation as he cannot even stay in office past October. The noise about his removal and eventual ascendance of another governor before February arrives will make that option an own goal. By December, he would look small without the LASG plate number driving him around.
I pity him - a really decent guy. He was my governor of 2017. Unfortunately, this is Nigeria where [you fill it] triumphs over excellence and capabilities.
