Jennifer Lopez is gearing up for her big return as the host of the 2025 American Music Awards in Las Vegas on May 26—nearly a decade after she first took on the role. She shared that she has been rehearsing for weeks to prepare for her first major TV performance in a while.
For her first "major television appearance in a while," Jennifer revealed in an exclusive interview that she has been "rehearsing for a couple of weeks."
"I took last year off, and I went back in, my first thing was doing a movie," she explained. "So, this is getting back into my performance mode in a way."
"We are going to be enjoying all the music of the year," she continued, expressing her excitement about the event.
Although Jennifer, who hosted the American Music Awards for the first time in 2015, declined to give any more "spoilers" about her next performance, she did share additional details about how she develops the ideas for her live performances.
Lopez explained that after taking last year off to focus on a movie project, this marks her return to performance mode. She’s excited to celebrate the music of the year and has been working closely with her longtime creative director Tabitha Dumo to craft a memorable show.
"I tell her what I want to accomplish," Jennifer, 55, clarified.
"And then she comes with 1,000 ideas, and we sift through them and then we kind of wind up crafting exactly what I had in my mind."However, not all of her ideas turn out exactly how they began. After all, Jennifer revealed that since they first began rehearsing it, her ceremonial opening number has already changed.
She said, "It evolves as well with time," "It began here over the last few weeks, and now it is at a new spot."
She also expressed her enthusiasm for honoring Janet Jackson, who will receive the Icon Award, and watching Gloria Estefan perform for the first time in over 30 years.
"I've been a fan of hers for so many years," Jennifer gushed. "I had the privilege to work with her early in my career as a dancer, and she's just wonderful and has influenced me so much."
"She was such a pioneer for Latin music, and Latin music is now having probably its biggest moment in history, as far as crossing over and taking over the global market," Jennifer said. "So, it's a perfect time to honor a pioneer like her."
It sounds like an exciting night ahead! Are you looking forward to the AMAs this year?
