Uncertainty over whether TikTok’s core algorithms will be included in the deal to sell its U.S. operations has slowed down talks with its potential buyers, reports The Wall Street Journal, citing anonymous sources. The algorithms — a key component of the sale — were part of the deal until late last week, when China tightened restrictions on artificial-intelligence technology exports — altering what the companies involved in the bidding would be getting. Buying TikTok “without its algorithms [is like buying] a fancy car with a cheap engine,” a person told the Journal.
