You need Growth in that digital business. You need someone dedicated to Growth. For internet companies, the business is user base because of the power of network effect – a positive continuum where more users make products better, attracting more users. If you do not have one, create that role. Think of Head, Growth; VP Growth; Growth Associate; etc. The job is to be laser-focused on growth.

If the best feature is having many people on the platform, it means the best design is Growth. Facebook understood that when it created the position of VP Growth which Chamath Palihapitiya managed. The reasoning is simple: If the best feature on Facebook is having friends and families there, then, it makes sense to have someone who can focus on bringing them.

Besides the engineering, you need to look at user growth. If you do, you would improve your  Scalable Advantage – a key element for success.
