Why Kim Novak Believes Sydney Sweeney is "Completely Wrong" to Portray Her in the Upcoming Movie

Sydney Sweeney's portrayal of Kim Novak on film isn't making her feel very pleased. In response to the Euphoria star's casting in the upcoming drama Scandalous, which will follow her affair with Sammy Davis Jr. in the 1950s, the Vertigo actress explained why the decision infuriated her.

In a March 27 interview with The Times of London, Kim stated, "I would never have approved," claiming that Sydney, 28, "sticks out so much above the waist."

The 93-year-old expressed concern about the biopic's emphasis on the former couple's physical connection, even though she and the late jazz legend—who briefly dated from 1957 to 1958 amid tabloid scrutiny over their interracial relationship—"had so much in common."

“There’s no way it wouldn’t be a sexual relationship because Sydney Sweeney looks sexy all the time,” she added. “She was totally wrong to play me.”

In accordance with some sources, Sydney's participation in the film was initially announced in October 2024. David Jonsson, a former member of the industry, was cast as Sammy, and Colman Domingo was scheduled to make his directing debut.

The Anyone But You actress earlier stated that she was "incredibly honored" to be able to take on the role of the legendary movie star, despite Kim's misgivings about Sydney's participation in the movie.

“I think her story is still very relevant today in that she dealt with Hollywood and scrutiny with her relationships and her own private life and the control of her image,” in October, she informed People. “I relate to it in a lot of different ways.”

Sydney has also been honest about how she feels about her body. In fact, she recently talked about how her early years helped her come to terms with her body.

“I grew up with boobs. I was wearing a 32DD in sixth grade, and I never felt confident,” in a March 12 interview, she tells Us Weekly. “I never had anything I felt good in, and I just wanted to hide.”

However, Sydney was chosen to play Cassie Howard in the HBO series, “started realizing it’s actually powerful to be confident.”

“Our bodies are incredible,” she went on to say. “We should embrace [them] and feel really good in our skin.”

Many celebrities, like Sydney, have been open about coming to terms with their bodies.
