A new era has begun for Wilder Hudson. Despite all, his father, Oliver Hudson, described how the 19-year-old, who shared his story with actress Erinn Bartlett, struggled with melancholy on campus following a difficult wisdom tooth extraction at home, which finally caused him to take a vacation from college life.
"Going back to school was a bit of a task," on November 6, Oliver explained on his and sister Kate Hudson's Sibling Revelry podcast that following six weeks of dental problems, Wilder "felt a little depressed, like he didn’t belong there anymore."
The Grown-Ups 2 actor claims that his son began "carrying so much stress" as a result of the "false start" at the University of Colorado: Boulder.

"Stress is a killer," the 50-year-old added. "I'd rather you smoke a f--king pack of cigarettes than be stressed."
And after Wilder co-starred with his father and Alicia Silverstone in Netflix's A Merry Little Ex-Mas, Oliver could see why his oldest son thought it would be better for him to pursue acting at this time because "college will still be there waiting for him."

Oliver, who is also the father of Rio, 13, and Bodhi, 16, with Erinn, assisted Wilder in devising a strategy to postpone his second semester and return to school for his sophomore year.
"He wants to take a shot at his life, which means that, of course, he’ll still be living at home," Oliver explained, "but he’s getting a job. He’s going to work on his auditions."
To further improve his skills, the aspiring actor will enroll in a screenwriting course at a nearby community college since, Oliver acknowledged that nepotism "will get your foot in the door, no doubt about it," but he also realized that connections cannot take the place of performance.
