Willie Nelson's Wife Annie D’Angelo Claps Back at Claim Their Son Is Their Caretaker & Celebrating Willie Nelson’s Birthday on April 29
Quote from Oladosun Joshua Segun on April 30, 2025, 12:15 AM
Annie D'Angelo, Willie Nelson's wife, recently responded to claims that their son Lukas Nelson was acting as their caretaker. The rumor surfaced after AXS TV shared a post suggesting Lukas was responsible for ensuring his parents were comfortable and well cared for. Annie quickly shut down the claim, commenting on the post, "I still take care of my husband." She also pointed out inaccuracies in the post, including incorrect ages listed for her and Willie.
Annie emphasized that while Lukas and his brother Micah Nelson are always there for their parents, she remains the primary caregiver for Willie. The country music legend, now 92 years old, is still actively touring and performing, proving that he’s far from needing full-time care.
It’s always interesting to see how celebrities handle misinformation.
Willie, 92, and Annie sat on recliners and posed with Lukas, who stood between them in a plaid button-down, in a picture posted to AXS TV's Instagram account on April 14.
"Lukas Nelson takes satisfaction in taking care of 91-year-old dad, Willie Nelson & 63-year-old mom, Annie D'Angelo," AXS TV said with the adorable family photo.
The post went on to say, "After many long years of making rad music, Lukas makes sure mom & dad are comfortable and living their best life."
"Don’t do that," the makeup artist added. "Just ask."
This isn't the first time Annie and Willie have provided a glimpse into where their health stands. In 2023, the "Highwayman" singer shared an update on how he was feeling physically and mentally ahead of his 90th birthday.
"I'm doing pretty good," Willie shared at the time. "I've managed to keep my weight down pretty good, and I really don't do anything that's bad for me. I don't drink as much as I used to. I still take a drink of tequila occasionally, but not like I used to."
And the country music icon, who also has daughters Lana, 71, Susie, 68, Paula, 55, and Amy, 51, from previous partnerships, and a son named Billy, who passed away in 1991, attributed his ability to alter his lifestyle to his cannabis use. "It not only saved my life, but it also possibly saved some other people's lives," Willie said.
"Because I was drinking a lot before I smoked marijuana," he added. Additionally, I may have killed a lot of people. I am just relieved that did not occur.

Willie Nelson turned 92 years old on April 29, 2025. Interestingly, he actually celebrates two birthdays—April 29 and April 30 because his birth was recorded a day late at the county courthouse.
Despite his age, Nelson remains incredibly active. He recently released his 154th album, Oh What a Beautiful World, on April 25, 2025. He’s also gearing up for his Outlaw Music Festival Tour, which kicks off on May 13, 2025, in Phoenix, Arizona, featuring artists like Bob Dylan, Billy Strings, and Sheryl Crow.
John Spong, the host of the One by Willie podcast, has a tradition of talking to notable Willie Nelson fans about a song they love before diving into fascinating side stories. Shared heartfelt tribute.
To celebrate Willie Nelson’s 92nd birthday, we’ve got a special, icon-on-icon birthday episode with his longtime friend, fan, and collaborator, 13-time Grammy winner Bonnie Raitt, talking about their sublime 1993 duet, “Getting Over You.” That song, written by Bonnie’s dear friend, the late and legendary Austin music figure Stephen Bruton, became a cornerstone of one of the most important albums in Willie’s career, Across the Borderline, which was produced by the brilliant Don Was who also produced Bonnie’s own classics, Nick of Time and Luck of the Draw.
She’ll show a lot of love as she gets into all of that, before talking about covering “Night Life” with B.B. King at Willie’s legendary Big Six-O birthday concert, why she thinks Willie is the most unique guitar-player alive…and then sending him the most gracious birthday wish you will hear all year.
