Master bedroom design in a Dubai villa or apartment starts with the headboard wall, and LC Interiors plans everything else around it. In the studio’s Creek Harbour Apartment and Swank Developer Villa projects, one wall carries the colour, texture and lighting of the whole master suite. The rest is furniture.
Lana Challis, who holds a Master’s degree in Architectural Design, leads a luxury interior design studio in Dubai that sequences bedrooms this way. The wall is resolved first, because the bed, the lighting and the curtains all depend on it.
Why is the headboard wall the focal point of a master bedroom?
In the Creek Harbour Apartment, the master bedroom sets the tone for the whole home. It has a tall channel-tufted headboard in champagne velvet, delicate panel moulding on the walls and layered drapery in warm caramel tones.
The clients were clear that the bedroom had to set that tone rather than default to it once the rest of the home was finished. So the master suite was designed in full alongside the living areas, and the same classical-contemporary language runs through both.
The Swank Developer Villa makes the same argument in a different material. Its master bedroom has a brass-inlaid headboard wall, treated as one of two hero moments a visitor would remember, next to the kitchen island.
How much does a master bedroom cost to fit out in Dubai?
LC Interiors’ villa renovation cost guide puts bedrooms at AED 15,000 to AED 60,000 each and calls them the least complex rooms in the house. That covers paint, flooring, built-in wardrobes and lighting.
That is why the headboard wall deserves the money. The same guide prices paint at AED 15 to AED 30 per square metre, and decorative plaster or fluted panels at AED 200 to AED 500 per square metre.
What does fluted panelling or veneer do to your joinery drawings?
It multiplies them. LC Interiors’ material budget guide explains that bespoke joinery is quoted in running metres but detailed per panel.
A flat sprayed MDF panel takes one coat of preparation, while a fluted oak panel is sixteen routed grooves per board, each one adding sanding and finishing time.
The shop drawing guide adds the site reality. Walls in Dubai villas and apartments routinely deviate 10 to 25 millimetres from plan over a three-metre run, so a panelled wall needs a recorded site measure before the drawing is issued final.
Order early. The studio’s approval timeline guide says that once shop drawings are approved, bespoke joinery runs five to eight weeks in a Sharjah or Al Quoz workshop, and custom upholstery and imported lighting sit in a similar range.

What should you plan before the walls close?
LC Interiors’ smart-home guide is blunt about timing. Infrastructure has to be specified at MEP first-fix, and after the walls close your options are surface-mounted conduit or wireless workarounds. For the bedroom, settle these points on the headboard wall elevation:
- Pendant or bedside light positions, so cable drops land exactly where the fittings hang. At Creek Harbour, vertical pendants replaced bedside lamps and solved the problem of bedside space either side of a tall headboard.
- Switching and dimming, including which circuits are dimmed. The studio’s fit-out budget guide notes that decorative pendants specified late force ceiling rework.
- Curtain control. Motorised shading needs a power supply and a control interface, and both must be planned during first-fix.
- Low-voltage cabling, documented, tested and certified before the walls close. The smart-home guide puts the cost of a missing cable at 10 to 20 times the first-fix price.
Sequence matters for the finish too. At Creek Harbour the panel moulding and joinery were built and painted before the drapery and furnishing layer went in, so the finished walls were never at risk.
In a villa, the studio’s villa interior design process resolves furniture placement and lighting zones before any finishes are locked in.
Ask your designer for a headboard wall elevation with every switch, socket, pendant drop and curtain motor dimensioned on it. Ask your contractor to photograph the cabling before the boards go on.
How do you write a bedroom snag that gets fixed?
Locate it and measure it. LC Interiors’ handover guide rejects “painting touch-ups, bedroom” and offers this instead: “Master bedroom, west wall, 2 visible joint ridges approx 1.5m and 2.2m above floor level, require re-sanding and spot repaint, full wall if sheen mismatch.”
Inspect with side lighting. The guide says to look along walls at a shallow angle, where wave and flat patches show instantly.
Re-inspect every fix yourself. A repaint over a bad joint that was never re-taped will look perfect for eight weeks.
Before handover, ask your contractor for a numbered, photographed snag list for the master suite, with the location and the standard each item fails against written into the text.
Common questions
Which wall should be the headboard wall in master bedroom design?
Choose the wall the bed will sit against and your eye meets first from the door. In LC Interiors’ Creek Harbour Apartment, that wall carries the channel-tufted headboard and panel moulding, and everything else in the master bedroom design takes its cue from it.
How much should I budget for a master bedroom in a Dubai villa?
LC Interiors’ villa renovation cost guide gives AED 15,000 to AED 60,000 per bedroom, covering paint, flooring, built-in wardrobes and lighting. A custom walk-in dressing room adds AED 30,000 to AED 80,000. A fluted or panelled headboard wall in your master bedroom design sits on top of that range.
Should a master bedroom have bedside lamps or pendants?
Either works, but decide before first-fix. At the Creek Harbour Apartment, LC Interiors specified vertical pendants instead of bedside lamps, which freed space either side of a tall headboard. Pendant drops and switching need to be drawn into your master bedroom design before the walls close.
What curtains suit a Dubai master bedroom?
Creek Harbour used caramel drapery in a heavier fabric than is typical for Dubai apartments, chosen for weight and sound-softening. In its compact apartment guide, the studio also recommends sheer curtains under a blackout layer, since blackout alone feels like a corridor. Plan the track and motors early.
