The competition is hitting up in Nigeria now in the telecommunication sector. More people need data services and the demand for data has been growing. With the smartphones and tablets, it is no more voice and SMS. People are consuming bandwidth with large chunk of data.
Any telco that cannot compete in this data services will find it difficult to compete in Nigeria. Accordingly, many of them have been pushing innovative products in the data space as they look for ways to attract new customers and retain present ones. Consequently, MTN is getting into this space with a device that can support multiple devices.
MTN launched a wireless solution which allows shared subscription for several devices simultaneously. The MTN Mi-Fi is a mobile broadband modem and a Wi-Fi hotspot in one, a unique combination which goes one better than the usual situation where devices require a separate data subscriptions to access the internet.
According to MTN, the MTN Mi-Fi hotspot provides a secured Wi-Fi zone for up to five mobile broadband devices. MTN Mi-Fi device allows subscribers to enjoy internet connectivity at a radius of 10 metres on different broadband devices.
