How Wise Was King Solomon? The Three Instances He was Outwitted

According to several historical accounts, King Solomon remains the wisest man to have lived the earth. From Christianity to Islam to several Hermitic beliefs, the reign of King Solomon is one of the historical references that often emerge when dissecting the transient nature of power.

According to an account often referenced by Muslims, when Solomon had the opportunity to ask for one thing from God, he only beseeched God to increase him in wisdom. God was very impressed by such noble request so He decided to not only grant Solomon’s request but also fortified him with the riches of the darkness. This, according to the narration, was because riches and wisdom were meant to work in harmony.

Thus, Solomon had the power to hear the language of the birds. The wind was at his behest. And he had a large army of workers which included humans, spirits and animals. However, despite all these powers wielded by King Solomon, he could not overcome his human nature, the tendency to err, which largely contributed to the rise and fall of his empire.

The following are factors and instances that led to the fall of Solomon:

Acting on grapevine

The first error that led to Solomon’s misfortune is found in his encounter with Hopoe, one of his army of workers. One day, Solomon examined his assembly of men and discovered Hopoe was absent without an official leave. The furious king promised to deal with him except he has a tenable reason for his action.

Of course, Hopoe knew he had to save himself from the wrath of the King. So he came to the King with an unsolicited report of his self-imposed recess. He told the king he had seen a powerful Queen who rules over another vast empire with twice as many of the King’s army. While the existence of the Queen was a fact, Hopoe’s skewed account of his experience was intended to save himself by agitating the King. Immediately the King ordered the debasement of the Queen whom he’d had no direct experience with.

Acting on Emotion

Lack of emotional control always leaves one helpless to the scheme of grapevine. One without emotional control often act based on impulse rather than critically analyzing the situation and deal with the important facts. Hopoe probably realized this weakness in his master and he used it to his advantage.

Another form of lack of emotional control by the King emanated in his expression of love. The subjugation of Queen Sheba would later be a major cause of Solomon’s strained relationship with God. Having cast a spell of love on Solomon, the Queen of the East tricked the King to commit idolatry which is considered to be the gravest sin against God.

Acting on Ego

Solomon had recruited Asmodee, the prince of demons, to lead the construction of his temple made purely of bronze and iron. Asmodee was so powerful that he executed the project in the stark night without raising a sound. So nobody knew when the project was started and when it was completed. After Asmodee completed the task, Solomon decided not to release the demon so he could continue to serve him in the palace.

One day, seeing Asmodee completely overpowered, Solomon teasingly asked the demon why he could not free himself if he’s as powerful as he’s thought to be. Then, Asmodee told Solomon to remove the ring he was wearing. On the ring was inscribed the name of God.

Because Solomon was curious to know what the prince was capable of, he accepted his challenge. Immediately Solomon removed the ring, he became powerless and Asmodee was able to throw him thousands of miles far off the kingdom and took on his image and ruled over the kingdom while people didn’t realize this for many years.

Since the time of Solomon, many great empires, individuals and businesses have fallen off power and relevance. Usually, the causes of their fall have not been any different from that of Solomon’s. On the other hand, those that have endured share certain characteristics in common. These have been extensively discussed to include; emotional intelligence, humility, and reason which include the ability to uncover the hidden intention of something, for example a gossip, through logic and critical thinking.

When God Could Wield His Sword, He Plays Chess Instead: Insights from Al Naml

0

They planned a plot, and we planned a plot while they perceived not – Q27:50

Several verses of the Quran stress on the dominion of God and his disposition to and/or expression of power. However, the attitude of God to power is arguably most uniquely discussed in Al Naml, Quran 27: 50. This chapter of the Quran which is named after the ant depicts the essence of wisdom and patience in a man’s life journey. Ability to exhibit wisdom and patience in the quest for power or struggle for survival is a quality that is highly revered in Islam and well enshrined in the traditions of Prophet Muhammad.

Al Naml is one of the  Makan (or Mahkiyya) revelations. That is, it was revealed in Makah before the flight of Prophet Muhammad and his followers to Medina. It chronicles the travails of prophets that lived before Muhammad namely, Moses, Solomon, Saleh and Lot, and how God intervened in their affairs during their respective era. Makkiyah chapters were mostly revealed to provide succour and hope to Muhammad and his followers when they were in their height of pain due to their persecution by the pagan Arabians.

However, according to the accounts of several scholars, the beauty of Al Naml is to be appreciated beyond the time and context of its revelation. This is based on the premise of its continued relevance in helping one to draw insights and inspiration during the period of conflict or when it seems the world is against one.

From Abraham to Moses and from Solomon to Jesus down to Muhammad, conflict and pains have been documented as the cornerstone of great insights and enduring fulfilment. This chapter teaches that even while one is on the right path to greatness, pushing the course of truth and working towards the progress of humanity, one is not immune to conflict and pains or opposition and persecution.

Another compelling theme of the chapter as entrenched in its verse 50 is the sly nature of power. Power is better taken or deployed through wisdom and strategy than through might and whim. This reflects the working of God and espouses many wise sayings one of which goes as thus:

‘’the mills of God grind slowly but it grinds exceedingly small.’’

When the enemy are in their laboratory of mischief, scheming and planning harm towards you, God is aware of this. Though He certainly has the power to thwart their moves arbitrarily, he seldom takes this route. Rather, He mostly prefers to cleverly lead them to their folly while they unknowingly leave traces and build bridges for you to manifest God’s Plan. Only in this process can you feel the pain and pleasure of growth and experience the depth and height of honour. The stories of Saleh and Moses were referenced in Al Naml to buttress this point of view.

Moses is considered by some scholars to be the first revolutionist to stage the first successful social movement in history. When Pharaoh feared that the Israelites might become so powerful someday that they would overcome their several years of bondage in Egypt, he ordered that every male child born to the Israelites should be killed.

However, when Moses was born and the mother feared he might be killed, God inspired in her to place the baby in a box and drop it at the bank of the Nile. Then God directed the course of one of Pharaoh’s daughters to the baby. The princess took a liking in the child and prevailed on the King to allow her nurture the poor infant in the palace. Thus, right under Pharaoh’s nose, his fear and waterloo was nurtured and emboldened.

The Chapter unfolds with the power of the infinite wisdom of God which encompasses both all that are known and unknown, seen and unseen by his creations. Because God possess knowledge of the hidden, many times we are caught bewildered by his actions and approach towards our affairs in the terrestrial plane. When we mostly want God to wield His sword in our defence, he play chess to our amazement. But he does this victoriously. He is the master strategist.

What’s Next For These Altcoins? Polygon (MATIC) Drops 4%, Solana (SOL) Drops 4%, HedgeUp (HDUP) Beats The Odds with 400% Gains

0

The wild west of cryptocurrencies always keeps investors on their toes, with fortunes being made and lost overnight. The unpredictable nature of this new financial frontier is encapsulated perfectly in the recent performances of altcoins, notably Polygon (MATIC), Solana (SOL), and the rising star HedgeUp (HDUP). The market’s dynamic landscape saw the former two experiencing a drop, while HedgeUp challenged the norm with a stunning 400% gain.

Polygon (MATIC): A Temporary Lull in an Upward Journey?

Renowned for its capability of scaling the Ethereum network by utilizing a novel Layer 2 sidechains solution, Polygon (MATIC) has caught the attention of many within the crypto sphere. However, despite its innovative approach and broadening acceptance, MATIC, Polygon’s native token, recently experienced a 4% dip.

This drop, while significant, could be part of the regular ebb and flow that characterizes the crypto market. As investors weigh the potential of Polygon’s (MATIC) technology against the realities of a volatile market, the current dip could potentially be an attractive entry point for those who believe in Polygon’s (MATIC) long-term potential.

Solana (SOL): Weathering the Storm

Solana (SOL), another promising player in the crypto space, also encountered a similar 4% dip. With its high-performance blockchain promising quick transaction times at a fraction of the cost of its competitors, Solana (SOL) has been on the radar of many discerning investors.

This recent price drop, while disconcerting to some, could be a part of the broader market trend or a reflection of temporary market sentiment. Yet, for believers in Solana’s (SOL) technology and its potential to revolutionize blockchain efficiency, this could present a buying opportunity.

HedgeUp (HDUP): A Maverick in the Market

Against the odds and current market trends, HedgeUp (HDUP) displayed a noteworthy divergence. The asset-backed token saw an extraordinary 400% gain, demonstrating that strategic innovation can yield impressive results, even in a challenging market.

HedgeUp’s (HDUP) unique approach of integrating the stability of tangible assets into the fast-paced world of crypto trading provides an appealing alternative for investors. This model has clearly resonated with the market, as evidenced by the impressive rally. If HedgeUp (HDUP) can sustain its performance and continue to appeal to risk-averse investors, its market standing could continue to strengthen.

Conclusion – The Dance of Altcoins

The world of altcoins is a dynamic stage, with each player dancing to its own tune. The recent performances of Polygon (MATIC), Solana (SOL), and HedgeUp (HDUP) have once again shown that the crypto market is full of surprises. While Polygon (MATIC) and Solana (SOL) grapple with a temporary dip, their technological potential remains undiminished, and they may yet see further upside.

Meanwhile, HedgeUp (HDUP) serves as a testament to the potential rewards of market innovation. Its recent rally underscores the fact that strategic differentiation, when resonating with investors, can generate significant market momentum.

As the crypto market continues to evolve, keeping a watchful eye on these three altcoins could prove insightful. They embody the exciting blend of innovation, resilience, and opportunity that makes the crypto space an intriguing realm for investors.

Telecoms Industry Contributed N2.508trn to Nigeria’s GDP in Q1 2023 – NCC

0

The telecommunications and information services sector made a significant contribution of N2.508 trillion to Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in the first quarter of 2023, according to a statement released by Dr. Reuben Muoka, the Director of Public Affairs at the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).

The figures provided by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), which accounts for 14.13% of the total GDP, indicate a 4.3% increase compared to the sector’s performance in the previous quarter of 2022 when it contributed 13.55% to the GDP.

“On a year-on-year basis, the growth rate showed a positive progression from 12.94% in the first quarter of 2022 to the 2023 figure of 14.13%, reflecting a substantial growth rate of approximately 9.19%,” the statement said.

The calculation of the telecoms industry contribution to GDP was derived from 46 different sectors of the economy that fall under the telecoms and information services domain.

The Nigerian telecom industry has consistently demonstrated a positive outlook, which can be attributed to the innovative and consistent regulatory environment established and implemented by the NCC.
During the covid pandemic, which saw the economic struggles against shocks to stay afloat, the telecom served as the federal government’s cash cow as other sectors of the economy plummeted under the heat.

In the first quarter of 2023, the federal government generated $820.8 million in revenue from the payment of 5G spectrum license fees by three operators: MTN, MAFAB, and Airtel.

MTN and MAFAB received their licenses in December 2021 and subsequently launched 5G services, while Airtel, which obtained its license in December 2022, is scheduled to launch its services in June.
Mouka noted that another significant development in the sector was the introduction of Starlinks broadband services, a wireless broadband service based on satellite technology, with the potential for nationwide coverage. This was made possible through the issuance of a license to SpaceX, owned by Elon Musk. The services are now available in various parts of the country.

The telecoms industry’s growth statistics highlight its impressive contributions to the economy.

As of April 2023, the number of phone subscribers reached 223.6 million, resulting in a tele density of 117%. Internet subscribers for the same period amounted to 157 million, while broadband subscriptions stood at 92 million, representing a broadband penetration rate of 48% in the country, according to Muoka.
