Repositioning Nigeria’s Oil & Gas Technology, Utilisation & Commercialisation
Nigeria Oil & Gas Technology (NOGTech) 2011 is the technology platform for Nigeria’s oil and gas industry. This year, the event is concentrated on technology development, gas utilisation and commercialisation of Nigeria’s oil and gas assets. NOGTech is an industry-led gathering which takes place over three days and delivers an all encompassing commercial event; comprising a two-day technical conference and three-day technology exhibition. Now in its 2nd year, this is a gathering where the industry is given a voice and one which can make a rapid change to business operations in Nigeria.

Tekedia management is in talk with the organizers of Apps World Africa to attend this program in South Africa. The program holds this June. We hope to cover the event and bring the latest progress on apps development in Africa. More details will be provided ….
“The global Apps World series of conferences and expos provide a forum for mobile operators, handset providers, regulators, application developers and marketing professionals to explore the fast moving world of applications for mobile. For the Africa event we will also be looking at mobile money as a key feature in the development of the apps industry”, writes Natasha Gwilliam,Head of Conferences, Six Degrees – the organizers – in an email communication to us.
To those that referred Tekedia to the organizers, thank you. We are thrilled that people are noticing the unique space we are trying to fill in Africa’s emerging technology landscape.
AroundMe allows you to easily and quickly find important businesses and services in your surrounding or any other location with your Nokia phone.
For example, you can find restaurants, banks, gas stations, and other local services with ease. View maps, directions, routes, street view, read reviews or call the business if contacts are available.
From a posting on Mobile Monday Kenya, this is what the trend looks like:
AroundMe allows you to easily and quickly find important businesses and services in your surrounding or any other location with your Nokia phone. For example, you can find restaurants, banks, gas stations, and other local services with ease. Users are able to view maps, directions, routes, street view, read reviews or call the business if contacts are available. Very cool. James revealed to me on a phone chat that the interest on the app around the world is just phenomenon. In the last three weeks the app has been downloaded more than 17,000 times.
He listed to me the top ten countries leading in downloading the app as follows
#1 India
#2 Italy
#3 Germany
#4 Thailand
#5 Turkey
#6 United Kingdom
#7 Brazil
#8 Spain
#9 Russian Federation
#10 Australia
Yeah, the app was done with Kenya in mind but as you can see, Kenya is not even in the picture.
Currently it runs on Symbian^3 and S60 devices. More devices are in the road map including s40 which will give more people access to the app. Good stuff
