To Have Impacts, All Crowd-Based Election Reporting in Nigeria Must Collaborate

0

Last night, the crowd-based websites like Revoda, ReclaimNaija and Next did not offer much help in collating the results. Tekedia will like to suggest that all of them collaborate to have more impacts. There are pockets of localized data gathering but they are not enough. If they can share their database, they will do much better in coming election. As we try to emulate the Kenyans and their Ushahidi, we need to remember that they had only one major platform and that was helpful in executing at the scale they did. But in Nigeria last night, we could not do it.

Next crashed revealing the Ushahid engine upon which it was built. That is too bad since we just lost access to the reporting and data it was supposed to provide at this crucial hour and time.

Revoda is reporting the results one by one for polling station. There should be a way to collate and aggregate them. The same applies to ReclaimNaija. Great efforts from all the main three – but we need to work together for more effects especially in the big one, the presidential election.

2011 Nigeria Election Results – Jonathan Improves in Google Buzz Metre

4

There is  a buzz and many things are indeed changing in this election cycle. Jonathan just added some more points in the Google buzz metre. He was at 45.6% yesterday, but today, has moved to 47.3%. He is still the person to beat in this election. Indeed, no one can dispute that the incumbent is strong. Our barometer shifts more to the President to retaining his job  from 6 yesterday to 7.

Meanwhile, in Ogun state, Olumide Osoba, the son of former governor, Olusegun Osoba has been declared the winner of the Obafemi Owode House of Representatives seat. He polled 12,279 votes. The PDP and the PPN candidates scored 5231 and 5914 votes respectively.

The result of the Ogun East senatorial election has also been declared, with the Action Congress of Nigeria candidate, Gbenga Kaka emerging winner. He polled 76,543 votes. The PDP and the PPN trailed with 52,613 and 46,148 votes.

Nigeria 2011 Parliamentary Election Website of Choice – Osun Defender

1

Despite all the buzz of the crowd-sourcing websites like ReVoDa, Next and ReclaimNaija, the website that made it happen today was Osun Defender. They provided before midnight all the results in Osun state. That is a great achievement and must have required excellent planning and execution.

Technology failed at the point of crowd sourcing the results. But Osun Defender irrespective of how they did it was awesome. We guess they did it the old fashioned way. Put people on the ground and use the power of mobile devices to call the numbers to the central office.

For providing the results in time, Tekedia awards Osun Defender the Nigeria 2011 Parliamentary Election Website of Choice.

Congratulations Osun Defender for this recognition from Tekedia.

Tekedia Updates Nigeria Presidential Election Barometer – ACN Moves to 5, PDP Down 2 to 6

1

Tekedia is modifying the Nigeria Presidential Election Barometer. With tonight’s partial results, anyone that does not take ACN serious in this election cycle has a big problem. ACN could surprise PDP in the Presidential election.

We are moving ACN from 3 to 5 and dropping PDP from 8 to 6 on the chances of winning the Presidential election. PDF has the edge because of the power of the incumbency.

ThisDay/Ipsos Poll on Nigeria Election – They Blew It

0

The party/the President that Thisday/Ipsos poll said was winning  very much is challenged very well, today, from West to North. It is very evident that Thisday/Ipsos did not take enough sample. Or perhaps they used iPhone and Blackberry in recruiting. Of course, those participants will see things differently. But if they have sampled average Nigerians mix, they did not get it right. Tonight did not validate that poll, if we can extrapolate.
