For a threequel, Amanda Seyfried is an incredible trouper. Regarding the possibility of a third Mamma Mia! film, the Emmy winner offered their thoughts.
Amanda stated to Deadline on X September 9 at the Toronto International Film Festival, "It is, yes," before hesitatingly adding, "I think."
Additionally, the 39-year-old talked about how willing other cast members, including Meryl Streep, Christine Baranski, Pierce Brosnan, and Stellan Skarsgård, were to take part in a new ABBA jukebox musical.
“We all said, ‘Yeah, definitely,’” she went on. “It’s our way of marketing and getting support. Big movies like that are all about studio timing.”
Indeed, Amanda claimed that Wicked, which eventually debuted in 2024 starring Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, had a direct bearing on the scheduling of 2018's Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again.
“I remember they did Mamma Mia! 2 instead of Wicked,” the former Mean Girls star clarified. “They could only do one big movie at that time, so we ended up slotting into that. So, it’s about silly things like that.”
However, there are other Mamma Mia! alumni who are just as excited to be on board as Amanda. There is a script for a third movie, and "it will happen when it happens," according to Judy Craymer, the producer and creator of Mamma Mia! The Musical and the (dancing) queen of any related endeavors.
“We know what we want to do with the movie, and it will happen,” in May, she stated to Deadline. “We brought together this amazing group of movie stars that were all connected through it and huge friendships evolved.”
“It’s not about sequels or redoing stuff. It’s about people engaging with characters,” Judy went on. “The movie is important for me creatively more than anything. But also, because I think the world needs another fun experience.”
