Britney Spears was detained in California for DUI

Britney Spears is in legal hot water. In regard to police records that media outlets were able to access, the "Circus" singer was taken into custody on March 4 just after 9 p.m. local time. She was set free the next morning.

Due to her jail records, Britney, who has boys Sean Preston, 20, and Jayden James, 19, with her ex-husband Kevin Federline, is scheduled to appear in court on May 4 at 8:15 a.m. local time to face her charges after her release. As per TMZ, which cited law enforcement sources, Britney was taken into custody on suspicion of driving while intoxicated.

A spokesman for Britney described her detention as a "unfortunate incident that is completely inexcusable," in a statement to news organizations.

"Britney is going to take the right steps and comply with the law and hopefully this can be the first step in long overdue change that needs to occur in Britney’s life," the rep continued. "Hopefully, she can get the help and support she needs during this difficult time."

The representative noted that her sons will be "spending time with her," and added, "Her loved ones are going to come up with an overdue needed plan to set her up for success for well-being."

Regarding Britney's arrest, local law enforcement has been contacted by news outlets, but they have not yet received a response.

One month after Britney revealed how her continued separation from her family is impacting her, she was arrested.

“As people, all we really want is to feel connected to each other and never feel alone,” on February 4, Britney said in an Instagram post that has since been removed. “For those of you in your family that have said to help you is to isolate you and make you feel unbelievably left out…they were wrong. We can forgive as people, but u don’t ever forget. Yearning and longing for contact is always crucial !!!”

In fact, Britney acknowledged that her nearly 14-year conservatorship with Father Jamie Spears ended in 2021. “I’m incredibly lucky to even be alive with how my family treated me once in my life and now, I’m scared of them.”

Britney had already discussed her complex relationship with her family. She acknowledged in her 2023 memoir, The Woman in Me, that during her conservatorship, her father "scrutinized and controlled" every aspect of her existence.

Furthermore, it was difficult to examine every aspect of her life under a microscope, including the aspects that were beyond her control.

“I understand that everyone's heart was in the right place, but I was hurt that some old friends spoke to filmmakers without consulting me first,” in other parts of her book, the 44-year-old stated, "There was so much guessing about what I must have thought or felt."

Britney acknowledged that, despite her imperfections, she was still learning how to live independently after being freed from her family in 2021.

"Freedom means that I get to be as beautifully imperfect as everyone else,” she clarified. “And freedom means the ability, and the right, to search for joy, in my own way, on my own terms.”
