Elon Musk Turns the First Trillionaire in History.
Quote from Oladosun Joshua Segun on June 12, 2026, 4:29 PM
Elon Musk's wealth is expanding to unprecedented levels. Thanks to his business SpaceX going public on June 12 at a valuation of $1.77 trillion, the world's richest individual became the first trillionaire.
As per Forbes' estimations, Musk's estimated net worth was $826 billion prior to his company's IPO (initial public offering), but the $135 stock price increased it to slightly over $1 trillion.
The CEO of Tesla, whose fortune was already over twice the value of the second-richest person, Google co-founder Larry Page, at $288 billion, would no longer be a trillionaire if prices fell, even though his wealth would still increase if SpaceX's shares flourish in the stock market.
"It is certainly hard to believe that a little company that started in a warehouse in El Segundo is now going public with the largest IPO ever," Musk stated before to the Nasdaq's launch. "If people had told me this was gonna happen, I was like, 'Man, you must be smoking some really good crack 'cause I think this company's gonna fail.'"
But he added that his team was optimistic about the company's prospects and that SpaceX has always aimed to "take the fiction out of science fiction and create an exciting and inspiring future for everyone."
Additionally, Musk—who has six children with ex-wife Justine Wilson, three with Grimes, four with Shivon Zilis, and a son with erstwhile conservative influencer Ashley St. Clair—emphasized that their goal is to foster optimism.
"There are always things we wish to be better, we want to solve here on Earth and we should solve them," He came to a conclusion. "But there also have to be things that get you excited about the future, that make you glad to wake up in the morning because you can't wait to see what happens next."
The 54-year-old isn't unduly preoccupied with his money, despite his enormous wealth, which is mostly dependent on the value of his firms' stocks.
"I actually don't think about that too much," in April 2022, he informed TED. "The thing that is actually more difficult and that does make sleeping difficult is every good hour—or even minute—of thinking about Tesla and SpaceX has such a big effect on the company. I really try to work as much as possible to the edge of sanity, basically."

In response to criticism that he was hoarding an unthinkable sum of money, Musk said, "I mean, at this point, it's water off a duck's back."
