Fetty Wap was freed from prison ahead of schedule. The "Trap Queen" rapper was released on January 8 and has returned home, his representatives confirmed to Billboard, nearly three years after he was given a six-year term for a federal narcotics offense.
“I want to thank my family, friends, and fans for the love, prayers, and continued support—it truly means everything to me,” Fetty (actual name Willie Junior Maxwell II) told the media outlet in a statement. “Right now, my focus is on giving back through my community initiatives and foundation, supporting at-risk young children by expanding access to education, early tech skills, and vision care for young kids and students so they can show up as their best selves.”
The 34-year-old continued, “I’m committed to moving forward with purpose and making a meaningful impact where it matters most.”
Additionally, he wrote a simple "HOME" on his Instagram Stories to corroborate the news.
Fetty was detained in October 2021 on suspicion of supplying drugs throughout Long Island and New Jersey, including heroin and cocaine. In August 2022, he entered a guilty plea to one charge of conspiracy to distribute cocaine.
The "679" artist was sentenced to six years in jail and five years of post-release supervision in May 2023. He was incarcerated at a low-security facility in Sandstone, Minnesota. Based on Bureau of Prisons records that news outlets were able to examine, his release date was most recently pushed up to November 8 of this year.
In 2023, Fetty openly expressed regret for his crimes during his sentencing hearing.
“I hurt my community, people who look up to me, my family and myself," NBC News reported what he stated. "I am truly sorry for any pain I caused.”
Fetty went through another trying time two months prior to his arrest when he grieved the loss of his 4-year-old daughter Lauren Maxwell, whom he shared with Turquoise Miami.
The rapper of "My Way" kissed a photo of his daughter during an Instagram Live at the moment, asking viewers to leave "all butterflies" comments because it was something "she loved."
"If you could do that," Fetty stated in a Live video clip. "That would mean a lot to me."
