Following Nancy Guthrie's loss, Savannah Guthrie formally reappears Today.

Back behind the work surface appears Savannah Guthrie. For the first time since her mother Nancy Guthrie, 84, vanished at the end of January, the co-anchor of Today returned to work on the morning program. Savannah is back with her colleagues while the search and inquiry go on.

"Good morning, welcome to Today on this Monday morning. We are so glad you started your week with us," during the start of the April 6 telecast, she informed the audience. "And it is good to be home."

"Yes, it is good to have you at home," Craig Melvin replied, briefly clutching her hand.

At the beginning of the show, Savannah gave an update on the war in Iran rather than spending much time discussing her absence.

"Here we go, ready or not," she stated, "let’s do the news."

Savannah previously conducted an interview with former Today coworker Hoda Kotb, who also filled in during Savannah's absence, in which she described her experience of the ordeal, even though this is the first time she has returned to the morning show for a live broadcast since her mother's suspected kidnapping.

The 54-year-old's main feeling over the last two months has been intense remorse. Savannah previously described a conversation she had with her brother Camron Guthrie following the disappearance of their mother, in which he confirmed her suspicion that Savannah's high profile might have contributed to Nancy's kidnapping.

In the March 27 interview, she stated that the recommendation is “too much to bear, to think that I brought this to her bedside, that it's because of me.”

Savannah went on, speaking directly to her mother and family, "If it is me, I'm so sorry."

The TV presenter also thought about her future return to Today, which she was aware would be challenging because the set is often "such a place of joy and lightness."

"I can't come back and try to be something that I'm not," she stated. "But I can't not come back because it's my family. I think it's part of my purpose right now."

And even though Savannah knew it would be challenging to appear in front of the camera again, she went on, "I want to smile and when I do, it will be real. My joy will be my protest. My joy will be my answer and being there is joyful. And when it's not, I'll say so."

Savannah also thanked Hoda for the support she, Camron, her sister Annie Guthrie, and her brother-in-law Tomasso Cioni had received.

"I know how much people have prayed for me and loved me," she thought, "all the people you see on TV and then all the people that you don't. All the notes and messages that I have received are just so beautiful."
