On February 23, the Revenge of the Nerds star's family first announced his death and revealed that he had battled bipolar disease for almost 20 years.

"We hope his journey can shine a light and encourage addressing the stigma that attaches to mental illness," on February 23, they sent a statement to Deadline. "At this time, we ask for the privacy to grieve this unfathomable loss. With gratitude for your understanding and compassion.”

Actor Keith Carradine, Robert's brother, stated that "there is no shame" in having bipolar disorder and that his family wanted the public to be aware of the difficulties his younger brother endured.

“It is an illness that got the best of him," the 76-year-old stated to the publication, "and I want to celebrate him for his struggle with it and celebrate his beautiful soul. He was profoundly gifted, and we will miss him every day. We will take solace in how funny he could be, how wise and utterly accepting and tolerant he was. That’s who my baby brother was.”

Robert, who had children Marika and Ian with Edith Mani and a daughter Ever with Susan Snyder, was lovingly recalled by his ex-girlfriend Jamie Lee Curtis after his passing.

On February 24, she posted on Instagram, "I met him live on television on the Dinah Shore Show. When they had a bunch of second-generation actors, we would call them now Nepo babies." (Robert was born to John Carradine and Sonia Sorel; Jamie is the daughter of Tony Curtis and Janet Leigh.)

the 67-year-old remembered, “Bobby and I came on last and Bobby rearranged where we were all sitting so that he could sit next to me and he kissed me, live on television.”

Jamie and Robert's relationship took off following their "very public meet cute," particularly when she met Ever.

“We became a little family,” the Freaky Friday star continued, "and it was my first experience with domesticity and motherhood and partnership.”

After their breakup, Jamie wrote, "Rest in speed and humor and love, Bobby," revealing that she and Robert stayed friends.
