Google is rescinding offers to thousands of people for temporary or contract work, blaming sinking ad revenue during the pandemic. The decision affects 2,000 people globally, including some whose start dates were repeatedly postponed, The New York Times reported, citing anonymous sources. The tech giant's move comes during a Silicon Valley "reckoning," as tech layoffs have ramped up since mid-March to more than 40,000. According to Bloomberg, the cuts will further slow the U.S. recovery, since tech companies boost stock gains and gross domestic product, and help other sectors grow.
