How Marriage Has Transformed Olympians Madison Chock and Evan Bates' On-Ice Partnership

Beyond of the rink, Madison Chock and Evan Bates are dancing through a new phase. The ice dancers achieved another significant life milestone after winning back-to-back World Championships in 2023 and 2024: they got married after seven years of dating.

“I think it just really solidified our commitment to each other and our commitment to our craft,” in an exclusive interview, Madison, 33, tells media outlets. “We already had such a deep understanding and bond through skating, but since we've been married, I really feel like we just take everything on as partners and champion each other on and off the ice in whatever endeavor we're pursuing.”

She went on, “We know now that we're married, that that's just going to continue into whatever comes next for us and in every facet of our lives.”

And just months later, they won their third straight World Championship, demonstrating that their IRL romance had only strengthened them on the rink.

Evan and Madi, who partnered as ice dancers in 2011, have been a mainstay in American figure skating for more than ten years, but they are still reaching new heights together. They will be traveling to the Olympics for the first time as a married couple on their fourth journey to the 2026 Milano Cortina Games, and they don't take it lightly.

“We're so grateful for the opportunity to represent our country once again at the Olympic Games,” Evan, 36, pointed out. “It is really what we've dreamt up since we were kids, and it's what we've worked really hard for to be in this position.”

Given that the Olympics are only a few weeks away from the U.S. Championships, it is not surprising that they have given it their best.

“We're working hard and been putting in the hours and putting in the work,” he added,” but we're so grateful for each day and for the opportunity.”

Fortunately, Madi and Evan—who won gold with the other Team USA skaters at the 2022 Beijing Games—have two very unique training partners in their dogs, Stella, 13, and Henry, 9, so they aren't training ice dance on the largest platform in the world by themselves.

She agreed, “We take them with us when we go to the rink, to the gym, to Pilates—which we like to call Paw-lates, just because they're so into it—and they're just such amazing companions.”

For this reason, she and Evan were delighted to collaborate on the Fuel Incredible campaign with the pet food company Nulo.

We put a lot of emphasis on our lives fueling incredibly to be on the ice and performing at our best,” Madi informed media outlets, “and we want the same for our dogs, because we love them.”

Additionally, having Stella and Henry at their side frequently makes all the difference because of how intense their training routine is.

“They definitely give us a lot of emotional support,” Evan clarified. “The grind can really take its toll. But since we have them with us all the time, as soon as we step off the ice and we let them out of their little bags in the locker room, they're running around and greeting everybody at the rink.”

He added, “I think there's just something so comfortable and wonderful about having our dogs with us all the time. We value that companionship so much in our lives. It's so important to us to have a balance between and sport, and they're just such a huge part of our lives that we couldn't imagine not bringing to the rink every day.”
