Intruder Arrested Outside Today Studios After Alleged Confrontation With Craig Melvin.

While trying to enter the Today studios, an intruder is being held. Just after 9 a.m. on July 16, the New York Police Department detained a "disorderly person" inside 30 Rockefeller Center, the location of the morning show's taping, a department spokesperson confirmed to news agencies.

“Officers responded and placed an unidentified individual into custody,” the statement went on. “There were no injuries reported. The investigation remains ongoing.”

The detained person apparently requested for Al Roker while avoiding on-site security, according to many reports. Then, according to a Today representative who spoke to media sources, the individual entered "an unauthorized area in a vestibule near Studio 1A" and went up to Roker's co-host Craig Melvin.

"Today is cooperating fully with law enforcement as they investigate the matter," the source continued. "NBC and Today take the safety and security of our employees, talent, staff and guests extremely seriously. We are reviewing the incident and our security protocols and remain committed to providing a safe and secure environment for everyone who works at and visits our studios."

News organizations have also contacted Melvin's representatives, but they have not yet received a response.

The cast of the upcoming Netflix comedy The Hawk, which includes Will Ferrell, Luke Wilson, and Jimmy Tatro, as well as Tom Holland and Anne Hathaway from The Odyssey, were among the guests on the uninterrupted Today program.

Savannah Guthrie revealed during the program that she will be temporarily stepping away from her position at the news desk in order to film an upcoming NBC gameshow that is based on the Wordle puzzle game.

“I’m headed over to shoot Wordle over the next few weeks,” In one section, Guthrie clarified. “We’re going to shoot the whole season, and we’re super excited. Cannot wait for everyone to see it.”

Co-host Sheinelle Jones referred to Guthrie's latest project as a "full circle" moment after the Today anchors' infatuation with the word puzzle game when it initially debuted in 2021. Guthrie's coworkers offered support for her latest venture.

Melvin, meanwhile, expressed sentimentality on Guthrie taking a long vacation, saying, “We’re going to lose you for a minute, though.”

The journalist has spoken up about the challenges of juggling her continued grief with her public-facing work after returning to the news desk in April after her mother, Nancy Guthrie, was abducted and has been missing since February 1.

“Everything is strange right now,” in May, Guthrie informed The New York Times. “It’s strange to get up and do the Today show every day, and it’s strange to say that I’m going to do a game show when your heart is broken.”

However, she continued, “I’m determined to put one foot in front of the other, and this is a joyous thing."
