Jennie Garth Clears the Air About Clash with Shannen Doherty.

Jennie Garth lovingly considers Shannen Doherty. Actually, the actress previously revealed details about her relationship with Shannen, who passed away at the age of 53 from breast cancer in 2024, during their time as costars on Beverly Hills, 90210. There were many speculations at the time that the two were at odds.

“We didn’t have the capacity or the language at that point,” following an interview on Fox on April 14, Jennie talked about their collaboration on the series with Rosanna Scotto of Good Day New York. “Everything was happening so fast. We never really sat down and talked it out. But we were friends and then we would clash and then we were friends.”

“We were young,” the 54-year-old continued. “That’s what you do when you’re growing up and you’re in this competitive environment and the script is pitting you against one another, the media, the world, and then it’s hard. The lines sometimes get blurred.”

Considering their "respect" for one another in real life, Jennie and Shannen, who portrayed Kelly Taylor and Brenda Walsh, respectively, on the popular sitcom, felt inspired to embrace their on-screen personas as frenemies.

“There are two sides to every story,” the Girl, Positive star clarified. “The press doesn’t know anything about what’s going on in a relationship, so they made it what would sell headlines and we were living it.”

“And we were growing and learning the whole time,” she went on to say. “So, if you look back at your life and you really zero in on some of the bad things that happened to you and you blame it on other people, it just doesn’t work out. But I think we dealt with it the best way we knew how to and it was no bad vibes between us.”

The What I Like About You actress, who is the mother of children Luca, 28, Lola, 23, and Fiona, 19, with her ex-husband Peter Facinelli, recently discussed Shannen's influence on her life following her death in 2024.

"At the end of the day, we really did have a respect for one another as strong women who have lasted a long time in this industry," in a statement that appeared on April 8, Jennie informed People. "And she taught me a lot. She taught me a lot of really good things about being strong, standing up for myself, using my voice. And I’m forever grateful for her and for the relationship that we had.”

“Even though at times it was complicated," she went on, “it was still really good.”
