His coworker, comedian Steve Onu, better known by his stage name Yaw, has verified the tragic news to the public, despite the fact that the details surrounding his death are still mostly unknown.

Yaw confirmed his death in an interview with the Peoples Gazette on Friday, saying, "Yes, he is." He did, however, add that he is still attempting to get in touch with Peter's brother in order to learn more about his death. "I am still trying to speak to his brother, but he is not picking," he stated.

Widely known for creating and directing the hit sitcom Flatmates and its successor My Flatmates, Kayode—fondly called KP—was a creative force in Nollywood. His work spanned stage, television, and film, and he was celebrated not only for his talent but also for his warmth, generosity, and mentorship to young creatives.

Seun Oloketuyi, the founder of Best of Nollywood (BON), also confirmed Peters' untimely death on Instagram on Saturday, posting, "Bad News emerging from Canada reveals Filmmaker Kayode Peters is gone."

Yes, Basketmouth's post also struck a deep chord. Only three words “Rest in peace blood” but they carried so much weight. It was raw, personal, and full of pain. The fact that it was accompanied by a carousel of photos and got over 22,000 reactions shows how deeply loved Kayode Peters was.

The My Flatmates Instagram tribute was equally moving. As a show he helped build from the ground up, their post felt like a family mourning one of their own. It was liked by fans and fellow entertainers like iamnasboi, and Dotun from Cool FM summed it up perfectly in the comments: “Your day 1 guy ... this will hit different 💔”.

KP wasn’t just a director he was a brother to many in the industry. The outpouring of love is a testament to the legacy he leaves behind.

Peters graduated from the University of Lagos with a degree in English. In 2000, shortly after graduation, he produced The Twilight Zone, which marked the beginning of his career in entertainment.

Following African Magic's revival of My Flatmates, Papa Ajasco, and Company, Peters became well-known. He then started working as an executive producer and film director on a number of successful blockbusters, such as Crazy Grannies (2021) and Dream Job (2021).

He produced "Excuse My African in New York City," his debut foreign film, in 2018.

In addition, Peters is renowned for having produced and directed a number of popular comedies and theatrical plays, including Extended Family. Additionally, he is well-known for his 2015 piece "Doll House."

He's generally recognized as a trailblazer who impacted and molded the careers of numerous performers and comedians, and he is considered a vital contributor to Nigeria's modern theater and television landscape.

Tributes have poured in from across the entertainment industry, with many remembering him as a kind soul who gave opportunities to others and left a lasting legacy both on and off screen.

A tremendous loss for Nollywood. May he Rest In Peace.
