Michelle Williams' glamour on the red carpet is simply stunning. On April 16, the Dying for Sex actress and her husband Thomas Kail made a rare, combined appearance in New York City, walking the red carpet for the Broadway production of Proof, Thomas's most recent directing endeavor.
The pair, who have a 5-year-old son named Hart Kail, a girl coming in 2022, and a daughter born in 2025, looked stunning. Michelle wore a long-sleeved velvet red dress, black leggings, and elegant black heels. For his opening night, Thomas looked sharp as usual in a sleek black suit.
Don Cheadle and Ayo Edebiri, two of the play's performers, were there as they prepared for the short engagement, which is scheduled to finish on July 19.
The Brokeback Mountain actress and Tony-winning director, who got married in 2020 after meeting on the set of Fosse/Verdon, worked together on the off-Broadway revival of Anna Christie before starting Proof. The play, which starred Michelle and Mike Faist and ran from November 2025 to February 2026, was directed by Thomas.
Michelle, who is also the mother of Matilda Ledger, 20, whom she shared with the late Heath Ledger, acknowledged that working on the play was a "big family undertaking," but the creative process was worthwhile.
“I do like to throw things up into the air and see what happens,” she stated in an October interview with Vogue. “I like to see what patterns are created when it all comes down.”
Thomas, who directed acclaimed Broadway productions such as Hamilton and Lin Manuel Miranda's In the Heights, wholeheartedly concurs.
“This is something about the theater that I love so deeply,” he clarified. “To do something that was done over a hundred years ago, you stand in line with all the folks who came before us. And I find that very meaningful.”
But being a mother continues to be Michelle's favorite and most satisfying occupation.
“There’s nothing that makes you committed to a better world than raising a great kid,” in a May 2022 interview, she said this to Variety. “It’s the ultimate creative act.”
“It’s totally joyous,” in reference to her pregnancy with her and Thomas's first daughter together, she continued. “As the years go on, you sort of wonder what they might hold for you or not hold for you. It’s exciting to discover that something you want again and again, is available one more time. That good fortune is not lost on me or my family.”
