The Crew Girl stars took their training seriously. As actors Miku Martineau, Sam Braun, and Kyle Clark disclosed, getting ready to play rowers on the Netflix series was an impressive accomplishment. Particularly for Martineau, who was training to portray Teagan Tao, her Crew Girl character who enrolls in a prestigious prep school and joins the dysfunctional boys' crew team while simultaneously filming another film.
“I was doing night shoots all week, but then on the weekend it was my only free time, so I would have to get up to do rowing training on a lake,” following a collaborative interview with her costars, the 21-year-old confidentially revealed information to news agencies. “But I had such a blast.”
Martineau actually "had no complaints" despite the rigorous training because it allowed her to spend time on the sea and learn something new.

However, because the cast was filming in British Columbia in the fall, it was not all fun and rowing.
“There was one day that we did in October,” Braun remembered. “I remember it was really foggy and it was cold ‘cause you're in your leotards and you're waiting for the drone to get set.”
The actors and crew went out on the lake on one of the coldest days, with everyone concealing hot packs in their clothing, according to Clark, who also mentioned that it rained that day.
“I had like 15,” Martineau admitted, and Braun added that they had also “blankets in the back of the boat.”
“I wish people could see maybe a little bit more of the behind the scenes of not just learning how to row but mixing in rowing with the technicalities of filming it,” Martineau revealed. “Because it's another ball game—making sure everything is done safe and properly and also the use of cameras with the boats. It's a very technical thing.”
She also wanted to ensure that she and her co-stars were "doing our best to portray" rowing accurately.
“As an athlete growing up, everybody wants their sport being represented correctly,” Martineau added. “But what's also great about it is that the rowers in our show are also learning how to become great rowers as well.”
Crew Girl debuts on Netflix on September 10.
