Porsha Williams Opens Up About Emergency Partial Hysterectomy.

Porsha Williams is being honest about her experience with fertility. Earlier this year, the Real Housewives of Atlanta actress had an emergency partial hysterectomy after doctors found 21 uterine fibroids, one of which was the size of a melon.

"I had symptoms but, you know, I'm 45 years old, and I'm thinking, 'Oh, maybe I'm perimenopausal,'" Williams, who recently talked about receiving a fibroids diagnosis in her late 20s, spoke with Gayle King on CBS Mornings on September 18. "When they told me it was fibroids again I was like, 'Oh, my God.'"

The Bravo personality, who has a 7-year-old daughter named Pilar with her ex-husband Dennis McKinley, stated that even though she believed she was "done" having children, she chose to take an unexpected test in May when going with a friend to get her eggs frozen.

"She started looking into doing the exam and she went silent," Williams added. "I looked at the screen and all I could see was black. I'm like, 'Not again.'"

After that, the physician referred her to a reproductive expert who "was in shock" by what she saw, sent Williams to get an MRI and then "scheduled a surgery within the next two weeks."

"It all happened so fast," she told the story. "It really didn't hit me until I woke up in the hospital bed."

By speaking publicly about her decision to undergo a hysterectomy, the Ultimate Girls Trip star hopes to help reduce the stigma associated with the surgery and encourage more women to seek medical advice. She has been dating Patrice “Sway” McKinney since last year.

"We have to stop diagnosing ourselves," she added. "There's so many different things when it comes to a woman that you need to get checked. We need to learn how to advocate for ourselves."

"If I were to see somebody like me sitting here with you talking about fibroids, it would've clicked for me to even ask for it," Williams went on to say. "I had to ask my doctor to check for fibroids after something was going on that was wrong."
