It also recorded a $101 million positive impact from sales of bitcoin during the quarter." Yes, regulatory credits and bitcoin sales are the profit drivers for Tesla. For Tesla, selling cars is not where the alpha will come.
Then read again "$101 million positive impact from sales of bitcoin during the quarter" which does imply that Tesla is trading bitcoin. More than $100 million in three months is a big desk!

Tesla reported record net income of $438 million during the quarter, as well as earnings of 93 cents per share on $10.39 billion in revenue.
