Tom Sandoval shares his reaction to Simon Cowell buzzing him during his performance on America's Got Talent.

Showmanship is what Tom Sandoval is focusing on. The jazzy rendition of The Weeknd's "Blinding Lights" by Tom Sandoval & The Most Extras on the August 19 broadcast of America's Got Talent did not impress Simon Cowell, but the Vanderpump Rules alum acknowledged that he "did not even know" the talent judge punched his buzzer halfway through the performance.

In an August 20 TikTok interview, he told Access Hollywood, "There [were] a few technical issues, but overall, got through it as much as I could."

Tom, 43, also took stock of his own shortcomings during the number after leaving the stage. “I definitely could have been better,” he went on. “I was worried a little bit more about the movement and whatever, and with the inner-ear, I should have focused a little bit more on the on the vocals.”

Though he insisted he was “not” offering an explanation for his rocky singing, the reality star claimed during the episode that problems with his in-ear audio monitors left him “flying in the dark” while belting out the song. He later noted that he had a lot of factors to take into account in his attempt to impress the judges.

“It's a competition,” he made a note to Access. “We're trying to set ourselves apart, so going out there and just singing versus singing, dancing, getting the crowd going, moving around. I was trying to do more.”

Judges Mel B and Howie Mandel praised Tom's energetic rendition of A-ha's "Take on Me" on his AGT debut in June, demonstrating his potential. Simon, in fact, had some positive things to say about the audition.

“The vocals weren’t great Tom, I’m gonna be honest with you,” he said at that moment. “However, not everyone comes on this show to get a record deal. Sometimes, it’s about being true to who you are.”

NBC broadcasts America's Got Talent every Tuesday at 8 p.m.
