Unemployment: National Agricultural Mechanization Cooperative Of Nigeria (NAMCON) To Revolutionize Agriculture In 36 States

0

In a bid to address the issue of unemployment in Nigeria, the National Agricultural Mechanization Cooperative Of Nigeria, NAMCON is set to establish agro extension service centers in 528 local government areas across the 36 states of the federation.

The establishment of these centers is aimed at providing jobs for unemployed 15 youths per local government area. These youths will be employed as technical staff, agro extension service staff, and operators.

NAMCON has prioritized five key intervention areas in the agricultural sector, which are, Nigeria mechanism Agro-extension service scheme, women nurturing birds for wealth empowerment program, strategic skill acquisition program and farmers house, mass housing project for farmers, and Nigeria Agro space market.

Sources disclosed that the training has already commenced in Kaduna state. About 2,300 people resident across the 34 local government areas in the states are said to be currently undergoing training.

NAMCON disclosed that it aims to train and empower the beneficiaries in poultry farming, which is mostly made up of youths and women. This program, set up by NAMCO, will no doubt assist the government in the creation of jobs and also help to alleviate poverty in the country.

Looking at the crisis of food shortages that a large number of African countries are faced with, majorly due to the Russian-Ukraine war, such training programs will come in handy, because the input of those registered on the program will help to curb food insecurity across the country and possibly lead to the exportation of food products, which will boost Nigeria’s economic revenue.

NAMCON disclosed that it has a target to empower 15 million people in Nigeria in mechanized farming. This is commendable, because looking at the Agricultural sector in Nigeria, it is one sector that has remained untapped.

There are so many hidden potentials in the agricultural sector yet to be explored. With this program, such underlying potentials will be maximized which will see the inclusion of so many unemployed youths in the agricultural sector.

With the inclusion of tech-savvy youths in the agricultural sector, they will leverage technology and create a pathway for Nigeria to increase food productivity and competitiveness to curb food insecurity in the country.

NAMCON should ensure to support the agricultural system to enable youths to drive innovation in the sector, and also grow their incomes and the country’s revenue through sustainable and scalable food and technological farming practices.

In Nigeria, the high rate of unemployment and poverty has for a long time been a cause of concern to the government. Some youths out of frustration of being unemployed have subscribed to vices in the society, thereby causing chaos and insecurity in the country.

This unemployment issue can no doubt be solved by empowering these youths through agricultural development programs that will enable them to have opportunities for self-employment in Nigeria.

However, youth participation in the agricultural sector in the country has been largely low because the sector has been made unattractive due to risk, lack of funding, inadequate technology, and the likes. In order to change the negative perception of agriculture these youths have about agriculture, it will require a level of multilevel intervention from the government and agricultural bodies in the country, for them to view agriculture as a lucrative career path.

OSUN 2022: Two Parties with Candidates from Ruling and Largest Opposition Party Increase Engagement with Voters

0

A new report from the Positive Agenda Nigeria (PAN) indicates that two minor political parties in Osun State are increasing their engagement with potential voters ahead of the state’s governorship election on July 16. The two parties are the Accord Party and the Labour Party.

It would be recalled that the Accord Party’s candidate, Dr. Akin Ogunbiyi, decamped from the largest opposition party, the People’s Democratic Party, after it became evident that he would not be able to gain a ticket from the party (PDP). The Labour Party’s candidate is Honourable Lasun Yusuf, a former deputy speaker of the House of Representatives. After failing to gain a ticket from the ruling party, the All Progressives Congress, he decamped to the party (LP).

“The Labour Party and Accord Party have risen to the challenge of engaging the voters on what they will do if voted to power on July 16, 2022.  The Labour Party especially has been discussing issues around the economic prosperity of the state, and threats to lives and perceived injustice perpetrated by the APC against the candidate of the Labour Party.  The party also focused on agriculture. For the Accord Party, its engagement has been on education and health”, PAN noted.

As noted in her previous monitoring reports, PAN laments the little changes observed in how the two major parties in the state engaged potential voters on policies, though the ruling party kept performing better in terms of policy engagement. Personality disparagement as a campaign strategy still dominated in this 5th week report.

PAN reiterated, “We discovered that the ruling party is better on informed policy engagement and less intensive in disparaging the personality of the opponents.  The leading opposition party (PDP) slightly engaged the policies or programmes of the current administration while it moderately disparaged the personality of the ruling party’s candidate and the party itself. We once again recommend that all political parties and their stakeholders be trained on responsible and representative democracy, the laws guiding people’s conduct successful election, and various moral values that must be promoted to bank a successful election.”

PAN therefore urges the state chapter of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in conjunction with the law enforcement agency to organise “activities that will deescalate tension and neutralize the activities of criminals” while the political parties should be more creative in “scrutinizing and analyzing the strengths and weaknesses of the strategies adopted by one another and assist the electorate to pick the best.”

Use Creative Job Titles To Attract Talent in Your Startup

0

“Sir, she has not accepted our offer”.  “CEO, upgrade the ‘Manager’ to “Director” with the same compensation terms”.

Most times, Tekedia Capital startups have used clever job titles to attract talent. Sure, I understand that many look at money as the ultimate motivator at work, but one of the things I have realized is that your business card can bring self-empowerment more than anything marginal more money can bring.

As a startup leader, never think it is all about money to attract talent. Give that young man in Lagos a title of Vice President so that he can have something to brag to that young lady and future in-laws. And to the lady, you need to respect that business card with the title on it. Of course, do not abuse it if you want your firm to have credibility.

Many firms in the US allow workers to pick their titles with CEO, president and director reserved. The key is to be smart about it. My last title in Diamond Bank was “Banking Executive”. People, “I am a banking executive with Diamond Bank”. It is now left for you to figure out that before you is a NON-Executive and nowhere near the last floor! Yes, banks are very creative with those titles; learn from them.

It’s a common conundrum faced by people early in their careers: Should you take a new job that pays better than your current gig but has a more junior title? Many people might consider that lesser title a step back. But career expert and author Kimberly Brown notes that “titles are subjective in the workplace,” so a vice president at one firm might be a manager at another. Rather than focus on title, Brown says it’s more important to consider how that new position will help your career goals and boost your quality of life.(LinkedIn News)

Comment 1: Tittle could be a source of impostor syndrome for some talented individuals who think safety and would rather have a modest entry into an industry or new company. Title addresses the esteem needs and represents only one-fifth of employee’s motivation according to Maslow’s hierarchy of needs.
It will not matter in the long run when more urgent and contiguous factors are not considered.

My Response: ” only one-fifth of employee’s motivation ” – so you think 20% is not significant?

Comment 1a: Definitely it is. That’s why I stated it will not matter in the long run if other more urgent and contiguous needs are not addressed.

My Response: I am saying that for most, in the long run, it is title that matters. Are you aware that people spend millions to get chieftaincy titles. Life is a stage; just know the scene you are playing. By the time you turn 50, you have met many needs “money” can buy, if you are financially successful. The next phase is where people can acknowledge that you are successful. That comes via titles.
