Tekedia Unveils A New Course – “Satellite Internet In Nigeria: Business and Career Opportunities”

2

I have rejected any level of accreditation (except the normal educational sector registration in Boston, USA) for our programs at Tekedia Institute. The reason is simple: we want to have the freedom and speed to introduce new courses without any bureaucrat wasting our time in the name of regulation.

So as Elon Musk, his generation’s finest innovator, reports that Nigeria has approved SpaceX Starlink to do business in Nigeria, we at Tekedia Institute see an immediate need to offer a course in that space.

In the Tekedia Mini-MBA starting June 6th, we are adding a new course titled “Satellite Internet In Nigeria: Business and Career Opportunities”. Our faculty will be Joseph Ibeh of Northern Sky Research, USA. He is a respected satellite internet business analyst. Texas-based Beeptool which has a SpaceX license will also teach another segment, focusing on the value chain.

Ndubuisi Ekekwe, a known container man (importer and exporter) will join them, sharing experiences on how people/businesses transitioned for opportunities in the early years of GSM in Nigeria. That knowledge could be applicable  as satellite internet arrives!

We invite everyone to register here as this course would be a great opportunity to find new business ideas or career opportunities in Nigeria.

Nigeria Approves Elon Musk’s Starlink for Satellite-Based Internet Services

Nigeria Approves Elon Musk’s Starlink for Satellite-Based Internet Services

2

Elon Musk just announced via Twitter that Starlink, his SpaceX satellite internet service, has been approved by the Nigerian government. People, this is that new moment and we can be looking at unlocking many opportunities in rural Nigeria. What the CDMA did to landline phones, the GSM did to CDMA. Can satellite broadband challenge the positioning of terrestrial (GSM-based) leaders like MTN, Glo and Airtel in Nigeria? And as these changes evolve, what are the business opportunities?

GSM created many opportunities. SpaceX’s Starlink Internet Services Nigeria Ltd was approved under Internet Service Provider (ISP) category, the same category telcos and private operators fall within. So, we can extrapolate that Starlink will have a local playbook in Nigeria.

As a modern school, Tekedia Institute is introducing a course  – Satellite Internet In Nigeria: Business and Career Opportunities –  for our next edition which begins on June 6 2022; register here. Our faculty will be Joseph Ibeh of Northern Sky Research, USA. He is a respected satellite internet business analyst. Texas-based Beeptool which has a SpaceX license will also teach another segment, focusing on the value chain. Ndubuisi Ekekwe, a known container man will join them, sharing experiences on how people/businesses transitioned for opportunities in the early years of GSM in Nigeria. That knowledge could be applicable as satellite internet arrives!

We invite everyone to register as this course would be a great opportunity to find new business ideas or career opportunities in Nigeria.

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) confirmed to Nairametrics that it has licensed Starlink, a satellite internet constellation operated by SpaceX, providing satellite Internet access coverage to 32 countries. This licensing followed a visit to Nigeria by the company’s team in May last year.

  • “The company received two licenses, which include the International Gateway license and Internet Service Provider (ISP) license, and will be trading as Starlink Internet Services Nigeria Ltd. According to NCC, the International Gateway license has a 10-year tenure while the ISP license is to last for five years. Both licenses take effect from May 2022 and may be renewed after the expiration.” NCC

  • Elated Elon Musk took to his Twitter handle to announce this development, which Nairametrics also confirmed from the NCC.

  • With high speeds and latency as low as 20 minutes in most locations, Starlink enables video calls, online gaming, streaming, and other high data rate activities that historically have not been possible with satellite internet.

  • Users also have the option to take Starlink with them via the Portability feature or Starlink

On The Disagreement Between Putin And Russian Lawmakers Over Ukraine War

0

Two Communist lawmakers in Russia’s far East on Friday, 27th May 2022, urged President Vladimir Putin to put an end to the ongoing Moscow’s offensive in Ukraine in a rare public show of dissent.

Despite thousands of people having been killed, maimed as well as wounded during Russia’s three-month military campaign in Ukraine, Putin has thus far largely enjoyed the public loyalty of the country’s political parties and government officials.

But a meeting of the legislative Assembly of the Primorsky Krai region caused an uproar on Friday when a local lawmaker and member of the Communist faction in the legislature read out a statement, urging the Kremlin chief to pull out Russian troops with immediate effect.

“If our country does not halt the military operation, then there will be even more orphans in our country,” lawmaker Leonid Vasyukevich read from the statement, according to a video of the meeting that has gone viral on the electronic media.

He said, “During a military operation, people become disabled. These are young people who could be of great use to our country. We demand an immediate withdrawal of the Russian troops.”

As he read the appeal, several lawmakers and the Governor of the region, Oleg Kozhemyako, tried to silence him.

Kozhemyako accused Vasyukevich of ‘tarnishing’ the reputation of the Russian army, hence calling him a ‘traitor’.

Vasyukevich further buttressed that the statement had earlier been signed by four Communist lawmakers but regrettably, two of those deputies disavowed the appeal at the meeting.

A majority of lawmakers present at the meeting then voted to strip Vasyukevich and Gennady Shulga, another lawmaker backing the appeal, of the right to speak at the Friday’s session.

The head of the local Communist faction, Anatoly Dolgachev, stated that the move had not been agreed with the party and promised to take “the toughest measures”.

It’s noteworthy that the veteran leader of the Communist Party, Gennady Zyuganov had publicly supported Putin over the ongoing Ukraine war, thus enjoining the president to ride on.

Russian artists, media figures and several business tycoons had spoken out against the Kremlin’s offensive in Ukraine that had led to a barrage of unprecedented Western sanctions against Moscow.

But after three months of the hostilities, there had been no apparent outbreak of dissent from within Putin’s inner circle or top officials.

It would interest, or perhaps shock, us to note that the Russian government has adopted legislation that could see people, the country’s residents, imprisoned for up to 15 years for discrediting the Russian military.

But truth be told, Putin needn’t be told nor reminded that the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine has gotten to stupor, hence should be put to stop unconditionally.

Frankly, anyone who thinks good of the country, Russia needs not hesitate to closely intimate the warlord on the awaited dangers inherent in the lingering crisis between the two neighbouring nations in Europe.

In history, war has never helped any nation in addressing any situation, nor has it been the actual remedy to any perceived political error anywhere across the globe. This is the reason Putin needs to have a rethink headlong towards embracing dialogue.

Mr. President, Do Not Run

1

Mr. President, I sent an email to you on March 21 2015 that I was making it home to ensure that General Buhari was not elected. In my thesis, I had noted that Mr. Buhari was not intellectually capable of leading a nation. He was hopelessly incapable of comprehending complex things in friendly interviews!  Within minutes, you responded.

But as the Federal High Court, on Friday, in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, rules that you can run for president in 2023, I want to tell you loud and clear – DO NOT RUN. Nigeria does not need you again.

What I suggest, publicly, is that you find one of the emerging leaders and mentor him or her. The Nigeria you left in 2015 is not the nation we have today. And the leader we need to fix that 2023 Nigeria is different. I am your #1 fan but on this one, do not do it. Like I made my case against General Buhari, even you cannot save Nigeria at this point.

The greatest challenge today is to get the youth to believe in Nigeria. They are fighting economic warfares, hopelessly. Your position is to build a ladder to get a new type of leader, in any party, to restore the nation and get them to believe.

As always, all respect to you. Do not run; you did not leave any bag in Aso Rock. Work to build for the future. God bless you, God bless President Buhari, and President Obasanjo, as three of you come together, and leave politics aside and work for the future of this nation. This is that moment because many things are fading daily!

The Federal High Court, on Friday, in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, said former President Goodluck Jonathan can run for president in 2023.

The judge, Isa Dashen, while delivering a judgement, on Friday, held that Mr Jonathan’s right to vie for the presidency a second time cannot be stopped by any retroactive law.

There have been intense political debates over Mr Jonathan’s eligibility to run for the presidency a second time, after he was defeated at the polls in 2015 by the incumbent president, Muhammadu Buhari, when Mr Jonathan sought to be reelected.

Joining the debate in April, human rights lawyer, Femi Falana, said the former president cannot contest in the 2023 presidential election, citing constitutional provisions barring the ex-president from seeking re-election.

Mr Falana, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) said in a statement in response to growing calls on Mr Jonathan to throw his hat into the ring ahead of the 2023 election.

He said Mr Jonathan, who was Nigerian president between 2010 and 2015, would breach constitutional term limits of two terms of eight years if he runs for the presidency and wins again.

Mr Falana recalled that Mr Jonathan became the President of Nigeria in 2010 following the sudden death of President Umaru Yar’adua, and later contested and won the 2011 presidential election.
