Facyber Cybersecurity and Digital Forensics Programs

0

Our Cybersecurity education is structured around four key pillars of policy, management, technology and digital forensics. This implies that we cover all the core needs of any organization or state institutions. While some staff like corporate lawyers may require training on policy, some staff like IT managers may need technical skills.

Others like business leaders will find the management module useful. We deliver all these programs through our web portal – www.facyber.com. The program structure is presented below: certificate programs take 12 weeks; diploma programs which require certificate programs as perquisites take 24 weeks (inclusive of the certificate programs) and the nanodegree programs require a live (physical) one week training in Lagos (for Nigerian learners) with the diploma programs as prerequisites.

Africa’s leading cybersecurity training firm, First Atlantic Cybersecurity Institute (Facyber), has opportunities for African entities to join our partner (franchise) network. It offers opportunities for entities to represent and market Facyber products and services in selected countries of interest in Africa.

At Facyber, we deliver solutions which can be integrated into HR training to support corporate cybersecurity awareness initiatives. Besides, our cybersecurity services cover policy, technology and management with relevance in key industrial sectors and markets. The training program has three classes: certificate, diploma and nanodegree.

The Amazing InterswitchSPAK Switch-a-Future Initiative on STEM Education

0

By Nnamdi Odumody

Over the years, the quality of STEM (Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) education in Africa has gradually and steadily declined. This is as a result of various challenges such as poverty, inadequate funding, lack of interest from students, unqualified teachers, inadequate learning aids, and incessant strikes just to mention a few.

In promoting various opportunities for sound education of the African student, especially with STEM, InterswitchSPAK Switch-a-Future Initiative is being introduced predominantly for high school students to chart the ideal career paths and drive them towards full optimization of their potentials. The motivation: to help in the fulfillment of their dreams as inventors, entrepreneurs, workers and scholars, to transform Africa to a prosperous continent. Interswitch SPAK switch-a-future initiative is a unique concept developed to identify, promote and ignite the right support and reward for STEM students in Africa.

Over the years, research has revealed that the quality of STEM education; like other core areas in Africa has steadily and gradually declined. This is as a result of various challenges such as poverty; inadequate funding; lack of interest from students; unqualified teachers;inadequate learning aids, incessant strikes/ industrial actions, just to mention a few.

In promoting the various opportunities for sound education/background for the African student especially as it relates to STEM, InterswitchSPAK Switch-a-Future Initiative is being introduced predominantly for high school students to chart the ideal career path and drive them towards full optimization of their potentials / fulfillment of their dreams (either as an inventor or entrepreneur) thereby making Africa a better place to live in!

InterswitchSPAK switch-a-future Initiative is a unique concept developed to identify, promote and ignite the right support and reward for STEM students in Africa.

Interswitch SPAK organized the Interswitch SPAK 1.0 Innovation Challenge competition where secondary school students in nine teams were tasked with developing technology-driven solutions to problems in healthcare, public transportation and education for out of school children. Each of the teams had Interswitch staff who volunteered as mentors. Team Neptune made up of nine SS2 students emerged winners of the competition and received medals, laptops and will partake in a two-week internship programme at Interswitch Group Head Office during their holidays.

The students were tasked to propose a solution that promotes an all-inclusive health insurance scheme that leverages technology. Their solution which integrated the National Health Insurance Scheme makes provision for web doctors and policy holders. It has node for telemedicine. Noting that Nigerians prefer going to pharmacies for treatment, Team Neptune also proposed that neighborhood pharmacies be empowered with the health insurance scheme so that patients who consult the web doctors can purchase prescribed drugs from partner pharmacists in their localities. The criteria used in deciding the winners were ideas and presentation. The jury considered the integration of technology, attempt at defining the possibilities, feasibility of the idea, how impactful and disruptive it was. Team Neptune’s solution utilized blockchain technology which boosted their chances of emerging winners.

The InterswitchSPAK National Science Competition saw 16-year old Akachukwu Anumudu, a student of Apostolic Faith Secondary School, Lagos, emerge winner, beating eight other contestants, in a quiz session to win the star prize of N7.5 million worth of tertiary education scholarship spread over five years, a laptop and monthly stipend during  the course of the scholarship. Henry Umunna, a 16 year old student of Loyola Jesuit College, Abuja was first runner up, getting a scholarship of N4 million spread over three years while 16 year old Onyedikachi Kanu from Dority International School, Aba got a one year scholarship worth N1 million.

Nigerian organizations should take cue from Interswitch, and invest in STEM education, for  the future of the young generation, to take Nigeria to the league of industrialized nations in The Fourth Industrial Revolution. The talent pipeline is there – the nation must ensure they flourish.

The Greatest Teachers

0

The greatest teachers have liberated the minds of many; find them for your business, education and career.

Education is one of the most important institutions ever created by man. It determines the wealth and prosperity of any society. Even in the medieval time, there was apprenticeship and that was a form of education. But the modern style of education goes beyond followership to helping students become creators of knowledge. In other words, it transforms students from becoming ‘recipients’ of education to ‘users’ of education as they partake in the process.

Nothing changes a society or a nation more than education. I always say that education is simply the liberation of the mind. It opens the mind to new possibilities and frees it from dogmas and destructive norms. It will remain a popular institution because it is the only institution that holds the key to the future.

By Nnamdi Odumody

Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, the APC governorship candidate for Lagos gubernatorial election, has a vision for a greater Lagos. With rich experiences spanning the private sector in the banking industry and the public sector of Lagos where he has served in all the administrations since Asiwaju Bola Tinubu as Special Adviser to Deputy Otunba Femi Pedro, Acting Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budgets, Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Commissioner for Establishments Training and Pension, Managing Director Lagos State Property Development Corporation and Board Member Lagos State Security Trust Fund. Besides, he was responsible for the preparation of Lagos State Economic Empowerment and Development Strategy. Largely, his preparation for the job as Chief Executive of one of Africa’s largest economies is not in doubt.

Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s developmental agenda to take Lagos to the next level “Greater Lagos’’ is anchored on five pillars; ’’T.H.E.M.E’’:

  • Traffic Management and Transportation
  • Health and Environment
  • Education and Technology
  • Making Lagos A 21st Century Economy
  • Entertainment and Tourism

Transportation and Traffic Management: Within 9 months of being elected into office, he wants to resolve some key gridlock points which are responsible for the daily traffic problems Lagos has come to be identified with, rehabilitate existing worn-out roads, encourage PPP (public private partnership) investments on roads and highways, connect more communities through link roads and bridges to relieve traffic on existing roads, utilize smart technology to optimize the transport network, and improve traffic safety.

Also, the candidate will leverage the Lagos Volunteer Corps to support traffic management while completing the Blue Rail Line for passenger operations by 2021, and the Red Rail Line in partnership with the Federal Government by 2022. He plans expansion of the water transport routes from 6 to 10 by 2021, scale passenger operations at Ijede, Ibeshe, Falomo, Ijegun Egba, Ipakodo, Osborne, Apapa and Badore jetties by 2020, and invest in water transport infrastructure in partnership with the private sector. He will extend the BRT network to include areas currently not captured in its routes.

In Healthcare, the Lagos Health Insurance Scheme will be expanded  to cover 500,000 households (2.5million) enrolments within the first part of 2019, increase health spending from the current 8.86 percent to 15 percent of  budget, create Healthcare Management System across medical centres, and expand the Lagos State Ambulance and Emergency Service coverage by increasing the number of ambulance points from 15 to 23. He plans to provide 10 new primary healthcare centres for riverine and other underserved areas, and ensure all 37 non-functional primary healthcare centres in the state are refurbished and equipped with modern facilities while leveraging data analytics for health data management including wearable devices for remote health status monitoring and diagnostics.

He has set a target for buying only clean natural gas, electric or hydrogen mass transit buses from 2019, establishing Clean Bus Corridors that will prioritize clean buses and incentivize clean fuel vehicles in specific areas of the state. To tackle the flooding problem, the linked 7 channels drainage system will be expanded and maintained to prevent flooding.

In Education, he plans to increase the Support Our School programme in partnership with the private sector by targeting 100 schools across all the 57 Local Council Development Areas while providing tax incentives for private sector organizations in supporting its technical and tertiary institutions. The candidate also plans to partner with the private sector to establish a special needs school in each senatorial district, leverage technology platforms to teach, access, test and reinforce learning in conjunction with the private sector and development partners, even as it strengthens STEM education in schools, by increasing the number of STEM teachers along with provision of adequate teaching materials for STEM.

To support the Lagos Technology ecosystem, Babajide Sanwo-Olu plans to facilitate the creation of tech hubs by converting unused government buildings across all the LGA’s|LCDA’s within two years of his administration, and collaborate with local, foreign experts, institutions and the Lagos Volunteer Corps  to establish world-class training institutions in the tech areas.

He will create an Independent Power Plants for technology hubs in Lagos, establish an exchange program to match undergraduates in universities within the state with technology startups, to develop skills required by industry before they graduate, and through partnership with the private sector create additional 20 vocational skills training centres and certification programmes for the unemployed and underemployed youths.

To Make Lagos a 21st Century Economy, the following will be done:

  • Local content in state projects will be promoted to grow 100 Innovation Driven Enterprises per annum
  • Creation of at least 3 fully-equipped industrial hubs and makerspaces in all the 3 senatorial districts, leveraging unused government buildings and other infrastructure across the state
  • Increase the capacity utilization to 85 percent of Lagos industrial parks over the next four years
  • Commit 60 billion naira over a period of four years as capital to aid MSME|IDE(Innovation Driven Enterprises) operations and performances through various programmes
  • Increase access to Lagos State Employment Trust Fund by 100 percent to facilitate job and wealth creation.
  • To ensure energy which will fuel the 21st century economy, embedded power generation will be utilized across the state.

Finally as the Entertainment Capital of Nigeria, Babajide Sanwo-Olu will work with stakeholders to create a functional filmcity with an academy for skills training, collaborate with local and foreign experts to establish world-class training institutions for the creative arts industry. He will also support the private sector to locate State of The Art Film and Music Production studios in designated zones. He plans to brand Lagos as the home of entertainment in West Africa.

Update: Babajide has won his election; we hope to experience all these promises within 4 years.
