Cynamix Is A New Nigerian Online Social Community

6

Nigeria has a new social media website to spend time, meet people and socialize. Facebook, take note. This one seems to look clean and neat. It was built on Joomla and we hope it  stays stable when it begins to get popular. Cynamix is the new deal in town. We got to know about it via a Facebook invitation  to Tekedia that read in part as:

I’d like 2 invite u 2 Join cynamix.net a Nigerian social community where you can meet guys and babes also looking to meet people. Share photos and videos, music, games, application, downloads, free browsing tweaks and forum discussions and many more. It’s really great. Join 2day @ http://www.facebook.com/l/hAQCU6dd2AQDRtOdInaHHdxt5iotcF3VhR0OSp1ue30Knjw/www.cynamix.net Regards

The good part of this website is the formation of groups feature. It has four main product offerings to people that join and they are:

  • Connect and expand your network
  • View profiles and add new friends
  • Share your photos and videos
  • Create your own group or join others

Increasingly people are noticing that if any entrepreneur can build something local and differentiated from Facebook, there is still an opportunity in social media networks. Despite the arrival of Google+ with already huge juggernaut of Facebook, a highly differentiated website can still succeed. It must offer not just social interaction but possibly something like local social commerce all integrated. It  will have a news interface that constantly provides local contents. Anyone that does that at the local level, according to experts, has a chance. We hope Cynamix will do just that.

Nigeria Needs 25 Million PCs To Attain United Nations MDGs – The Zinox Man Sets Government To Make Him A Bigger Mogul

0

For Nigeria to meet the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) by 2015 in the ICT sector, it needs to deploy nationwide, at least,   25 million computers in the next few years, according to a statement by Leo Stan Ekeh, chairman, Zinox Technologies Limited. Speaking at the 10th year anniversary of the ICT revolution, he noted that 3.7 million of these PCs should be deployed in each of the 6 geopolitical zones with 2.5 million in Abuja.

The benefits: even economic development, hasten the realization of the MDGs by 2015 and actualization of vision 20:2020. According to him, these 25 million PCs are to be  produced and delivered by the indigenous Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs). That is simply money for Zinox, as always!

“These PCs would be targeted at youths who leave secondary school with 6 ‘Alphas’ , and all graduating students from the polytechnics, Colleges of Education and Universities. The machines are to be funded by the federal government under an arrangement that requires all corporate persons to pay 1 percent ICT tax for a period of 5 years.  “On the alternative savings from the sovereign wealth fund could be ploughed into the provision of these PCs in the next three years”, he added.

Ekeh stated that this would address the problem of capacity building as Nigerians acquire more technical competencies. He said that prices would be forced down appreciably enabling the local OEMs to compete with their foreign counterparts, adding that Nigerian banks are not lending money to local OEMs and vendors because of unpredictable patronage.

“Boost the local industry with 25 million PCs and you can be sure that banks would line up with all kinds of finance packages. Besides, the deployment of large numbers of PCs would boost participation in the development of software applications, the internet and social media and we can start talking of the ICT revolution in real terms”.

But no matter how you see it, Stan is asking government to make him a bigger mogul. After all, in the local OEM sector, his company runs the show. Omatek has been on comatose for ages and the computer man knows what he is talking about. The interesting thing is that the government will never do that because it will not.  While it is cool to give computers away, there are kids in the nation that have no clue on how to use a pencil. They better use that money to give free education in all the states of the federal to secondary school level. With time, those kids will figure out computing.

Nintendo Records First Ever Loss – Slashes Prices To Remain Competitive. The Problem? Smartphones And Tablets

0

Japanese video game specialist Nintendo is slashing the cost of its 3DS hand-held player following weak sales. The decision was announced after the company announced its first ever quarterly operating loss, which came as a shock to the markets. The loss figure for April-June came in at $483.6m (£296.1m) while its annual operating profit forecast was also slashed.

Nintendo kept its full-year sales forecast for the 3DS at 16 million but said that was because it would cut the device’s suggested retail price worldwide. In Europe, the figure falls by “around a third”, according to a company statement. The move comes into force on August 12. The Nintendo Wii has proved more popular in the home gaming market Nintendo said: “The ultimate price to consumers is, of course, determined by retailers, however we look forward to consumers benefiting from much lower retail prices very soon.” It is currently selling for £169 on Amazon – down from £229.99.

The weak corporate result underscores concerns among investors that Nintendo is too focused on hardware at a time when the market is shifting to software, with games played on the internet and smartphones seen as a key driver of industry growth. Doubts over whether 3DS can replicate the success of its Wii home console have dampened enthusiasm for the company’s stock, which has lost about 30 percent in the past three months.

Last month, Nintendo showed off its next-generation Wii console, which includes a touch-screen controller and high-definition graphic support, but market watchers were disappointed by the device’s lack of social networking capability.

Analysts have noted that Wii may be having side competitions from smartphone and tablets.

“Gaming hardware is definitely not the place to be. “Smartphones and tablets like the iPad provide a great gaming experience. “These devices have very powerful graphics and increasingly they combine features such as motion control which help provide a richer gaming experience.”, said Keith Woolcock from investment research firm 5th Column Ideas.
