Kate Middleton caught everyone off guard when she joined Prince William for a public outing.

Kate Middleton is going on a special expedition to kick off the new year. On January 8, the Princess of Wales unexpectedly appeared with her husband, Prince William, for an engagement at the Charing Cross Hospital in London. William and Kate, who will celebrate her 44th birthday on January 9, went to see healthcare professionals as NHS Charities patrons.

Kate, who has three children with William—George, 12, Charlotte, 10, and Louis, 7—spoke with a volunteer who assisted cancer patients during their visit.

According to Hello! Magazine, Kate, who declared she was in remission after receiving a cancer diagnosis in 2025, responded, "I know," when the volunteer brought up the hours spent with patients throughout treatment during their conversation.

She wasn't the only one affected by her diagnosis, as William thought back on his wife's hospital stay and how their distinct experiences made them respect medical professionals.

“Both of us had different experiences with hospitals, me working with the air ambulance and Catherine with her recent health journey,” as per the site, he stated throughout the conversation. “And coming here today reminds ourselves just how important all the teams are, all the staff, the patient sort of interactions.”

"It's so heart-warming and it's so important that we kind of acknowledge and appreciate all that goes on in the NHS,” he continued. “And that very strong bond between patient and carer."

Kate joined her family for the yearly church service in Sandringham on Christmas Day, and she wore a burgundy suit by Roland Mouret for the excursion. Kate returned to the service on that specific occasion after missing it in 2024 while recuperating from cancer treatments.

Kate said in January of last year that her secret kind of cancer was in remission and that it will take some time "to adjust to a new normal."

"It is a relief to now be in remission," on January 14, the 43-year-old posted a message on X, which was once Twitter, “and I remain focused on recovery.”

"I am however looking forward to a fulfilling year ahead," she added. "There is much to look forward to. Thank you to everyone for your continued support."
