Sigma Electric Brings The Scope of General Electric Into Ethiopia

0

SIGMA Electric is a company engaged in the design, manufacturing supply, and installation/erection and commissioning of electromechanical equipment, plant, systems and turnkey projects and also in electromechanical services and trading activities.

SIGMA Electric PLC is established as a result of a strategic merger between two separate groups who shared similar vision. One of these two groups was an enterprise known as Remake Engineering. Remake Engineering was established under the sole proprietorship of two electro-technical professionals. It was limited only to installation, commissioning and subsequent servicing of electro-mechanical equipments such as motors, generators and their auxiliary equipment and maintenance of kitchen appliances such as refrigerators and heavy duty stoves for homes, hospitals and hotels.

The second group mainly comprised of senior professional Electrical Engineers having substantial exposure to modern electromechanical business techniques and who were in consultation with each other to form a commonly owned private company. Initiated by the objectives of tapping with the ongoing business trend as well as upcoming opportunities and challenges, these two groups had the opportunity to come together and establish a private company named SIGMA Electric PLC, in July 1999 since then the company began to bid successfully for larger projects.

For the best and efficient service provision and customer satisfaction SIGMA structured its business area along the industry line. Presently the company is engaged in three major operational areas. Namely;

  • Power and communication system services
  • Industrial services:
  • Commercial Services

Kenyan AAR Health Provides Ethical Health Solution. Possibly the Blue Cross of Africa

0

This Kenyan company could as well become the equivalent of Blur Cross Blue Shield in North America.

“AAR’s business is to achieve commercial success by providing healthcare solutions in ways that honour ethical values and are compliant with legal requirements, as well as to demonstrate respect for people, less fortunate members of the community and the natural environment.”

AAR Health started as a rescue and evacuation service in Kenya serving the expatriate market, adding in-patient services in 1991 and a clinic and HMO in 1994. Today, the company has grown to 140,000 customers, representing a 25% market share in Kenya. Expanding to Rwanda, Uganda and Zambia, the company harmonised its product offerings across markets to ensure its leadership position in the provision of health care solutions in Africa.

In line with their goal of providing ethical healthcare services, AAR Health made a number of investments aimed at increasing their reach: a 60-clinic network in rural Kenya; providing training for their preferred provider; a strategic initiative to work with hospitals to reduce costs and develop new products; a plan to open more centers through a new franchise model; and an aggressive business plan to provide services to the poorest communities with an affordable service mix.

South Africa At 25% Unemployment Rate – Africa Needs To Translate Statistics To Improved Living Standards

0

Bloomberg has it that unemployment in South Africa rises to 25% . So, what is the progress in this nation?

South Africa’s jobless rate, the highest of 61 countries tracked by Bloomberg, increased to 25 percent in the first quarter as Africa’s biggest economy failed to create employment for new job-seekers.

The unemployment rate rose from 24 percent in the fourth quarter, Statistics South Africa said in a report released in the capital, Pretoria, today. The number of people in work fell by 14,000 to 13.1 million.

Africa must certainly elevate the game to ensure that citizens get decent jobs. That is the only way to stay hopeful and peaceful. We understand the displacement with technology, but nations must work hard to align the economic prosperity with job creation. That way, a middle class will be built. That the biggest economy in Africa hovers around mid 20s in jobless rate is not a good sign of progress. For most, it is still paper progress which is yet to touch their lives.

It is imperative that we match our good paper statistics with better living standards for our citizens. That Africa is growing and we still house most of the poorest people on earth could be that we are creating and expanding wealth for only the top of the pyramid. That wealth must trickle down and job is the most effective way of doing that.
