Ushahidi Goes To iPhone, iPad and Android

0

Simply, you can now download Ushahidi in iPhone or iPad. Get the Android here.

Ushahidi is a non-profit software company that develops free and open source software for information collection, visualization and interactive mapping.

The organization uses the concept of crowdsourcing for social activism and public accountability, serving as an initial model for what has been coined as ‘activist mapping’ – the combination of social activism, citizen journalism and geospatial information. Ushahidi offers products that enable local observers to submit reports using their mobile phones or the internet, while simultaneously creating a temporal and geospatial archive of events. In a tough software students competition held May 4 at the University of Lagos Akoka, four students from the Federal University of Technology Akure, (FUTA) emerged winners of Imagine Cup Nigeria finals 2011. They worked on a medical app named Medicare.

The trios are David Olaniyan, Taiwo Orogbangba, Toluwanmi Kolawole and Alaba Oluwafemi and would fly the Nigerian flag this July in New York, USA.

The first runner up is Click Synergy from Covenant University which digitizes educational materials with an app named ePaq. Members are:

  • Franklin Chieze;
  • Uzo Awil
  • Oluwaseun Aremu
  • Samwul Datong;

Obafemi Awolowo University students came third with Brain Media that can help transmit class lectures via radio. The app name is schooltwo. The students are:
