Once again, Prison Break is erupting. Eight years after the original series ended its existence permanently, the streaming behemoth Hulu has approved a revival, giving the cherished series a new lease on life.
Although Wentworth Miller, Dominic Purcell, Sarah Wayne Callies, and William Fitchner appeared in the original version of the show, the relaunch will have a fresh group of prisoners in the major role.
Lukas Gage, Emily Browning, Drake Rodger, Georgie Flores, JR Bourne, Myles Bullock, and Clayton Cardenas will all appear in the new season.
As per Deadline, Browning plays Cassidy, “a soldier-turned-corrections officer takes a job at one of the deadliest prisons in America to prove just how far she’ll go for someone she loves.”
Despite being situated in the same Prison Break universe, the new project directed by Elgin James is separate from the previous series and is not anticipated to feature any of the actors or characters from the first series, according to Deadline.
Miller played engineer Michael Scofield in the first series, who secures a position at a jail to save his brother Lincoln Burrows (Purcell) from being executed for a crime he did not commit. The show lasted from 2005 to 2009 before making a comeback in 2017.
Miller, who came out as homosexual in 2013, explained why he had no intention of returning to the Prison Break universe years after the final season aired.
"I'm out. Of PB. Officially," in 2020, he posted on internet media. "Not bec of static on social media (although that has centered the issue). I just don't want to play straight characters. Their stories have been told (and told)."
"So. No more Michael," Miller went on. "If you were a fan of the show, hoping for additional seasons... I understand this is disappointing. I'm sorry. If you're hot and bothered bec you fell in love with a fictional straight man played by a real gay one...That's your work."
Purcell stepped up at the time, backed by his brother who was on screen.
"It was fun mate," he published. "What a ride it was. Fully support and understand your reasoning. Glad you have made this decision for you health and your truth. Keep the posts coming...love ya brother."
There are a lot of intriguing TV shows planned for this year, even though the Prison Break reboot has not yet been given an air date.
