When it comes to beginning his sober journey, Chase Chrisley is being candid. Due to his continued alcoholism, the Chrisley Knows Best star decided to enroll himself into a rehab center.
“Just a lot of emotions,” on the September 16 episode of The Chrisley's: Back to Reality, Chase 29, while traveling by plane with his father Todd Chrisley and girlfriend Jodi Laine Fournerat, spoke through tears. "I just need to go and handle a lot of traumas that I have buried. I just thought that I could bury it, bury it, bury it.”
Admitting that he was "scared" to seek treatment, the proprietor of the Chase Chrisley Collection said, "I just gotta find myself."
Todd, who is also the father of Savannah, 28, Grayson, 19, and granddaughter Chloe, 11, together with his wife Julie Chrisley, sent words of support to his son throughout his choice.
"My life's story is not going to be that I went to prison for 28 months,” in reference to his time in prison following his conviction and subsequent pardon for federal tax invasion charges, the family patriarch spoke to his son. “Your life story does not have to be that I had an alcohol and substance abuse problem. That's not your life's story. That's a part. That's a chapter."
After overcoming his oldest son's addiction issues, Todd, who also has children with his ex-wife Teresa Terry, Lindsie, 36, and Kyle, 34, acknowledged that he was more equipped to deal with Chase's difficulties.
"You know, I thought going through this with Kyle would kill me," after dropping Chase off at the institution, Todd stated. "But maybe it was preparation for what I'm going through today. I'm sad, and I'm leaving [knowing] that I had to bring my son to a rehab. I'm sad that I'm getting on a plane and he's not with me."
"Even though we've been through a lot,” he went on. “I truly believe that God did not bring us this far to drop this off and that God will keep a protective edge around my son and the healing hand on him at all times. It's because that's what I pray for all of my children every day and every night.”
Even though his father supported him, Chase's difficulties soured his connection with his sister Savannah, and in the end, he missed the family's first sit-down television interview together after his parents were released from prison.
In an attempt to mend their relationship, Chase apologized to the presenter of the Unlocked podcast after appearing on the show for a while.
"I'm beyond proud of you,” while in a Zoom call, Chase informed Savannah. “I'm beyond thankful for the steps that you took and the responsibility that you carried because, like, I was a mess.”
Chase promised to do better after Savannah acknowledged that she felt the strain of keeping her family together while her parents were incarcerated.
"What I can do is show up for you now and in the future, because I can't go back and change anything,” he stated to his sister with tears in his eyes. “But I'm sorry, Savannah. And I love you.”
Savannah announced that she had accepted her brother's apologies, "I love you, and I'm here if you need me.”
"I'm proud of you for taking the steps that you've taken,” she went on to say. “You've always had so much potential, if you just let yourself fall into and work for it, and I'm proud of you.”
Chase ultimately made the decision to sober up, which he made public in March, in order to ensure that he could be present for his family. In a side interview, Chase stated.
"I've learned that time is the only thing that money can't buy back,” in a side interview, Chase stated. “So, I'm not going to waste it arguing over small, petty things that don't really matter at the end of the day. And, that family's really all you got."
