Director James L. Brooks provides a unique statement on Jack Nicholson.

It's the most enjoyable working with Jack Nicholson. After working with the actor for almost thirty years, including directing two of his three Oscar-winning roles in Terms of Endearment and As Good as It Gets, writer-director James L. Brooks believes that.
Although Jack hasn't been seen on screen since James' 2010 film How Do You Know, which starred Paul Rudd and Reese Witherspoon, the filmmaker is "very much in contact" with the 88-year-old and has an audacious prediction for Jack's future.
In an exclusive interview on the red carpet at the Ella McCay global premiere in Los Angeles on December 9, James informed news outlets that "I'm sure he'll be working again." "I' hope it's with me."
Even though Jack wasn't in James' last picture, Ella McCay, which starred Emma Mackey and Jamie Lee Curtis and was only available in theaters December 12, it was partly because of the plot, as James stated, "There's no part in this film for anybody like Jack."
With the exception of a few infrequent appearances on his daughter Lorraine Nicholson's Instagram, Jack has been avoiding the spotlight, but James has long expressed his desire to see the One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest actor return to the big screen after a 15-year break.
“I keep on thinking he's going to get itchy and scratch it,” prior to mentioning their latest movie, James informed People in 2023. “My theory is it’s not his last movie.”
He continued, “That’s what I’m hoping for. He’s the man.”
In addition, James is appreciative that Jack starred in his debut film, Terms of Endearment, in 1983. On that set, James stated for having “began my relationship with Jack, who's one of the great people I've met in my life.”
“I am in love with the guy,” he went on. “Americas in love with the guy. He's a lovable guy.”
Ella McCay debuts in theaters December 12, but there are more films coming out soon.
