Facebook Debuts "Face"-Book

Facebook, the social media giant, has unveiled a technology that brings meaning to "Face"-book.  This is using facial recognition technology to change how people share and relate with photos. Going forward, it will make it possible for you to be alerted when someone is uploading any photo with your face, irrespective of whether the person is tagging you or not.

The social network debuted new features on Tuesday intended to alert people when someone else has uploaded a photo of them, even if they weren’t “tagged” in the photos with their real names. Users can then approve the image for publishing, choose for it to be untagged without their names, or contact the person who uploaded the photo.

This is not a new technology for Facebook. The firm has been using it for years to make it possible to tag people as photos are being uploaded. The technology compares human faces with images which Facebook has in its own database. With images of billions of people, I am sure we are all there. Now, it is making use of it to build the real "Face"-book. Go figure!

Go figure indeed. Though could be an interesting feature for the photo maniacs, some of us rarely take photos anyway. Now the name 'Facebook' is no longer just in the name, but also in deed. Let the face 'tagging' begin...
